I have done it so many times I can't even count any more and sometimes it was even out of the country.

I have to agree that to pass up a promotion it doesn't look good for your husband or his future with his current company.  Kids adjust and you will make friends.  Just be positive about it and make it a new family adventure.

I haven't read all the posts from others yet, but wanted to share a few thoughts ;)

First, congratulations and don't pass up this fantastic opportunity!

Second - you're not really leaving anyone behind.  In today's age of technology, you're just a click away from everyone you choose to stay in contact with.

Third - You'll make all new friends and can make some ahead of time by using the boards here - go to the state forumn once you decide where to live and post a note.  I think you'll be surprised at how much people like you will reach out and embrace you to their area.

Finally - We have VERY good friends who moved here from Colorado for a job and would like nothing better than to move back there.   The weather is wonderful and offers so many opportunities to do cool stuff outside - nearly year round.  Your kids will love it and the summers are so much more pleasant!

I'm a wee bit jealous, but of course, hate to lose a fellow Texan to another state!   Good luck in your decisioins either way.  Oh, and I agree - hubby can't pass up this kind of promotion or he risks never being offered another one.  In today's economy - take the money and run baby!   You can always save more (and get on a great future savings plan with that kind of increase), or you'll spend it.    Look at the bright side; if you try this and save the extra money, you may be able to come back to Texas and PAY CASH for your next house, regardless of how much money he makes!!!!

Think about it :)

Thanks to EVERYONE who took the time to post.  All of the opinions were so true and made me feel 100% better about moving away from here.  I guess we will be playing the waiting game for now, until all the paper work comes in for his transfer (which has to come from San Diego, CA)  Next we have to find out exactly what district he will be running.  Then they will tell us where we can live?  We have to live with in 1 hr. of the sub-office.

I'll keep everyone posted!  I'm more excited today then yesterday......I guess the shock is wearing off!

Thanks ladies....ya'll are the best!

Ash :)

I can relate from your kids perspective.  My dad had one of those jobs that required us to move every 2-3 years.  It was mostly up and down the East Coast (with a brief stay in Louisiana and Minnesota).  In the beginning I never knew that other families didn't move as often as we did.  I never felt abnormal.  In my tween years, yes I figured it out and felt like it was "so unfair" but I guarantee that is typical teen/tween attitudes about everything in life (drama drama drama).

As an adult I look back and am THANKFUL at all the amazing opportunities I had growing up.  I learned how to get to know people quickly (picking the good vs the bad included) and adapt to change with less trauma.  Those were amazing qualities that alot of people never get the chance to develop.  I was a "fat kid" and yet I had amazing confidence and self-sufficiency.

Due to my husband's job situation we will probably never move, and honestly that saddens me that my kids will grow up thinking the whole world is like their back door.   America is an amazing and diverse place and everywhere really is unique and wonderful in its own right.  I have no doubts that my experiences made me who I am and I wouldn't trade them for anything.

I am not alone, neither are you.
