UGHHHHHHHHHHHHH  I am suprised I have hair left.I am soooooooo fed up with these doctors office. I called at 8 am this morning to my OB and it is 611 and still no call back. I feel VERY ignored and Im not liking it at all.
I was never told that PCOS is in ur hormone level either.I never looked more into it,so its partially my fault as well. I will be looking into this more now and I will be requesting bloodwork throughout my cycle.
Any advice is greatly appreciated ladies!!!  I would appreciate it if the ones that want to flame,to keep it to theirselves. I am just clueless on a lot of this as I never had to go through all of this to have my two children that are living. We just planned to get pregnant and that is just what happened and then I got PCOS and major weight gain and then fertility issues.I guess it is my own fault as i need to be looking more into my health issues.

BIG hugs

Hi, I have been following all your posts and Really wish you send you a HUGE hug!! I was told I had PCOS when I was 26 and had been trying to conceive for 2 years...I thought it was just a fertility issue...when we conceived our son on CLomid I was thrilled.  We got preg. with twins alittle over a year later on the 4th cycle of clomid...lost one at 14 weeks, but delivered a healthy little girl full term...she has a mild cleft palate, but no one even knows except the speech therapist.  The Dr. told me we would never conceive since I was now over 30...so when my lovely daughter was 11 months old I had lost some weight and was not feeling well.  I thought  "God gave me 2 beautiful kids and now he is taking me home!!"  Well, not His plan...#3 was on the way!! Shocked to say the least...fast forward 4 years, my son gets a platelet disorder and we are wishing we had saved Cord Blood...so we decide to try for #4...5 cycles of clomid and 2 misscarriages...preg again with twins...lost one at 9 weeks.  delivered a healthy girl last Nov.  BUT the last Dr. I saw explained to me that PCOS is a Metabolic/Hormonal issue...you have an insulin resistant body and the cure is to loose weight, BUT (Here's the kicker) BECAUSE you have PCOS...it is nearly impossible to lose weight!! WTH??? She explained to me that the older you get the more difficult it is to "cure" PCOS...so she recommended this book...Living Well with PCOS...it gave some diet ideas and all and the reason the #5 cycle worked is because I was able to drop 12 pounds using the advice in the book.  I hope my story helps you.  My heart goes out to you and I believe you will get your Hearts desire...Keep the faith! Knowledge is power...and all those other cliche sayings to encourage you! :) Blessings! -Jen !.

Make sure when you actually SEE the doctor that you tell them about what happend with your phone calls, most doctors have no idea when their staff is being dumb, and are usually pretty surprised to know it and usually take care of it pretty fast.

As for the hormone's, Sara was dead on when she told you that PCOS is not just about cysts (although you would THINK it is considering the name LOL). Your doc can order blood work, although I don't really remember all the exact details since it's been about 8 years since I went though it, but it was something like 3 days into the cycle, then 10 days, and then 20 days. It gave a good picture of what was going wrong and when with my hormone levels, so it gave us a better idea of where to start and what treatments we should follow for the best results!

Good luck, and stay on that doctor until you get a call back, PCOS is nothing to mess around with and can cause so many other issues when it is not controlled properly.

I honestly think its time to drop this DOCTOR. I would do a lot of research on Doc's in your area and go from there. You need one that knows what they are doing. When I saw the RE they ran a battery of tests....including drinking the glucola drink.... and bingo I had IR which is very common with PCOS.

Here are some of the tests that your doctor can RUN...

Laboratory Tests

  • FSH (Follicle Stimulating Hormone), will be normal or low with PCOS
  • LH (Lutenizing Hormone), will be elevated
  • LH/FSH ratio. This ratio is normally about 1:1 in premenopausal women, but with PCOS a ratio of greater than 2:1 or 3:1 may be considered diagnostic
  • Prolactin will be normal or low
  • Testosterone, total and/or free, usually elevated
  • DHEAS (may be done to rule out a virilizing adrenal tumor in women with rapidly advancing hirsutism), frequently mildly elevated with PCOS
  • 17-ketosteroids (urine metabolites of androgens, used to evaluate adrenal function)     elevated or decreased?
  • Estrogens, may be normal or elevated
  • Sex hormone binding globulin, may be reduced
  • Androstenedione, may be elevated
  • hCG (Human chorionic gonadotropin), used to check for pregnancy, negative
  • Lipid profile (low HDL, high LDL, and cholesterol, elevated triglycerides)
  • Glucose, fasting and/or a glucose tolerance test, may be elevated
  • Insulin, often elevated
  • TSH (Thyroid stimulating hormone) some who have PCOS are also hypothyroid

I think "PCOS" needs to be abolished as the name and they should go back to the original name   "  Stein Levanthol Syndrome" . That's the name the two doctors who discovered it  gave it in the 30s. It is a wide reaching disorder and puts women at risk for diabetes, early heart disease, stroke and early death. That's not including all the BS that it causes with fertility issues and depression.

I would've been calling that doc back an hour later and every ten minutes after that....but I'm MEAN about stuff like that.

Hard stuff to go through. Hugs,
Angie
