Question for Charters and those that know more than me LOL

I'm certainly new to all this.  I had no problem getting pregnant (first one took a while but then no problems).  My issue, obviously, is keeping them.  I've never charted, or anything like this b/c I didn't have any problems (and my heart goes out to those of you who have infertility - I can't imagine how hard it is for you)

Anyway, since I'm 40 and we've given ourselves until the end of the year to do this or stop, I figure I should take advantage of the 5 months I have left, right?

So I think I have the charting together, but how soon can you take a pregnancy test after you think you've ovulated?  What tests are the most sensitive?  Help :)

I know there are a lot more things we could be doing (temping, etc) but I think I might send my husband over the edge - so I'm treading lightly here.

Any advice you can give would be appreciated.

TIA.

they have ovulation prediction tests that you can buy... that you can use with the charting.... kinda like preggo test.. they tell you about 24-48 hrs before you ovulate..... you can take the preggo test about the time you would be getting your period... i tested positive the day my period was due...

FertilityFriend (the online service I use for charting) recommends testing no earlier than 14DPO (days past ovulation)... But wait, if you're not temping, what are you going to be charting?  It's really the most reliable way of confirming ovulation (other than dr's tests, and i dont know anything about those)

LOL I think I might have the terminology wrong....I'm using fertility friend only as a guide.  So with the first day of my cycle, and the normal length, finding the times I'm most likely to ovulate.  This is as far as I've gone so far.  I know I could be doing more - the pee tests may be an option.

AARGH.  I'm so not good at this.  Thanks.

Ahh ok, now I understand...  You *might* want to consider OPKs and temping, especially if you're only going to continue for a few months... It's really not all that time consuming, if you're thinking that.. But then again, I haven't gotten pregnant yet while charting, so I couldn't attest that it works ha ha, but theoretically it should....    Best of luck to you!!

I'm just learning the whole charting thing too. I've had an IUD for 4 years and my last cycle (#2) lasted 34 days so i'm clueless about the who's, what's, when's and where's of my own fertility and ovulation. Sad, huh? But I got pregnant the 1st time effortlessly - this time, requiring much work!

I just lurk and learn.

Good Luck,
Cathie

p.s.   I like fertilityfriend and babymed.com

 Google Ovulation Predictor Kits...

Early Pregnancy Tests dot com has some great/cheap OPK's.
I have been using them. I have endometriosis. Couldn't get pregnant Pre Op and I am just "curious". We went as far as IUI's and drugs last time. So I am keeping my cool this time and if it doesn't work, it doesn't work....

Some people get Positive pregnancy tests as early as 11 days post ovulation.
But, you can't assume your ovulation date without BBT or OPK confirmation...and OPK's only verify that you are going to Ovulate in the next 12-48 hrs.
