Kale and liver (I can only stomach it in Pate form) have a TON more iron than spinach ... if you can deal with kale, try that instead of the spinach with your eggs ... just my two cents. I have had low iron my whole pregnancy, and this is what my doula suggested. Good luck!

Wow Jennifer that is low!!!

I hope and pray that your levels go up soon. I am sorry I hav been MIA and I am trying to catch u with everyone.

Have you ever tried Vitron C for iron supplement? I was recommended to take that by my surgeon it worked great for me.  I also buy vitamin D 2,000 that I take daily from walmart. I would feinitely suggest you take two prenatal vitamins (purchase at walmart)daily.  I know you are not pregnant but it would definitely help.  Have you also considered taking a vitamin B complex daily?
(PTH )parathyroid hormone for detection pr monitoring of diseases of calcium homeostasis.

How are the kiddos?

Hugs,

Ferritin 5
Iron saturation 12%
vit D 28 (normal on mine is 20-100) and the doc noted they like it to be above 30

My problem was the I stopped taking vitamins while depressed. I am getting back into the groove and I am feeling better because of it.

Hope your numbers come up at next blood draw.  I am having mine redone at the end of sept/beg of oct.

Have you tried cream of wheat?? 1 serving has 1/2 of the daily value of iron you need...it also has vitamin C to help you absorb the iron and some calcium too. I add a few raisins for the iron too. I would take that any day over spinach...lol Shari

FWIW, I take Vitron-C for my iron supplements.  It's ferrous fumerate plus vit C.  And I take 1 2x a day spaced out between my 1900mg of cal citrate.

My ferritin was 2 and my PCP wanted me to take oral supplements for three months and then have labs drawn again. My surgeon said that there was no way those would get iron stores up to where I felt good. You start to feel ok when ferritin is around. They told me it needed to be 100 to feel really good. I had to have an iron infusion in order to get my levels up.

Good luck!

Wow! My ferritin only got to a 3. PTH is parathyroid hormone, when it is high, you are actively leeching calcium from your teeth and bones. Bad news.

I started taking Vita For Life vitamins when I had all my problems. They are formulated for gastric bypass patients, especially RnY'ers. They are spendy, but worth every penny. Other than a supplemental b-12 shot, all my labs have been normal for the last 6 months. (And my hair is growing back well!)

Let me know if you want the ordering info for the vitamins. I love them!!

Where do you get your vitamins? I tried googling to see if I could find out more information but couldn't come up with anything.

I currently take "Celebrate" vitamins,
