Follicle Study Costs

Hello All. I started Clomid this month for the first time and my dr has recomed a follicle study as well. My insurance will not cover this and my dr office was generally vague with what the cost will be.  Can anyone give me a ballpark on what they may have paid for a Follicle Study? It sounds like I may have to have several of these and I am worries about the cost mounting up quickly.

Thanks,

Kim

I have never heard of a follicle study.  Is it the clomid challenge?  This would just require extra blood work and perhaps some ultrasounds.  Or, perhaps he is just talking about ultrasounds to follicle checks (never heard them called studies).  On clomid, you shouldn't need more than 1 or 2 in a cycle.  At my clinic, they are like $125 for self pay.  But, it seems like they should be able to code them so your insurance would pay.  They are worth it to pinpoint ovulation.  Also, I would suggest you trigger to time ovulation exactly, or they may just be a waste of money.

Also, is this a regular OB?  If so, don't give them too much time to try to get you pregnant.  Go right to an RE (reproductive endocrinologist)...their sole purpose is to get women pregnant.

Yes, these are the ulta sounds.  My insurance wont cover anything that is even remotly related to infertility and the bummer is I have great insurance!

I can't afford the RE at this point.  The few that I talked to would be several hundred dollars for even just an office visit. At least with my OB my office visits are covered by my insurance. I have so many freinds who have drained their savings and I just don't want to do that.

I had follicle studies every 3 days while doing fertility drugs but sadly it was covered and it was years ago.

I just want to wish you well and hope you get the answers you need! Are you sure your insurance won't cover them? Maybe if they re-worded it some how?? Just a thought!

*** just read where your insurance doesn't cover everything sorry!

Best of Luck!
