RNY and Pregnancy

My hubby and I have been trying for 8 years to have a baby.  We haven't had luck as of yet and WLS is our last resort.  I had my RNY on 7/6/09 and now we are in the 12-18 month waiting period before trying.

I am wondering if anyone has had the same experience and was able to get Pregnant after the WLS.

Also, if you did were you able to maintain a good weight and lose it after the birth?

I am still waiting for my WLS story to come true, to me right now it seems to be a fairytail.

Thanks for any advice.
I've finally started my new journey!!!!!!!!!!!

I am currently 13 1/2 weeks pregnant and we had been trying for 8 years when I got my RNY.  Mine was for my health but also to try and make it easier to become pregnant.  I was off the BC 1 month!  I actually only waited 11 months but that was because my labs are always good and I wanted it to happen on our 10th anniversary trip to England, which it did!!!  So for me so far it has been a happy ending, as I know it will be in about 6 months.  God bless you and I hope it goes as easily for you as it did me!

I have PCOS and hubby has low sperm counts. We did fertility treatments for years. I had wls and we got pg naturally with number 1 and now pg with #2 naturally as well. I still have pcos and hubby still has low counts, but I KNOW I wouldn't have been able to get pg without the surgery. It really does seem to help a lot of women balance their hormones. Good luck...and be extra careful with your birth control methods for awhile as some women really do become fertile mertiles after surgery. Shari

That's great news to me! Congrats to you!  I too have PCOS, so my doctor says that I will definately get pregnant as soon as the time is right.  Did you have problems losing the weight after the first pregnancy?

Hi, I don't know how a doctor can you that you will "definitely get pregnant"... MANY people have gotten pregnant sooner after RNY, but there are still MANY that have troubles.  I definitely wish you the best, but nothing is a guarantee.

6 years trying, PCOS, diabetes, insulin... negative after negative.  RNY, 15 months later with doctor's blessing, I got pregnant the first try!  I got into some bad habits pregnant, and losing weight is not easy for everyone afterwards.  Its no harder than for a "regular" weight person though, and you start from a much lower weight than you are even now!  (I have 2 post op kids BTW, both beautiful healthy boys!)  Good luck, its worth the wait!

I didn't read all the responses but I was like you, tried for 8 years...had 2 miscarriages...finally adopted our son....had WLS....got pregnant at 4.5 months post-op.  OOPS!  I wouldn't recommend that!  I had lost MOST of my weight by then (20 more to go - I was at 150) and never lost another pound after conceiving.

Now, with DH supposedly the infertile one, we got pregnant with TWINS.  OOPS AGAIN!  Now, we have more babies than we ever wanted and are closing down this factory with the birth of the girls! LOL!

Good luck...WLS stories do come true!!

1 year out from WLS with PCOS and I am now about 11 weeks pregnant.....Tried for 5 years prior to WLS. Surg was a Godsend for me. I have been at goal for about 3 months now and Labs are good so hopefully everything will be fine though no weight gain yet.

Make sure you are careful (BC)...because the over all picture of your goal is becoming healthy.  Once you are healthy then you would like to be able to have children-thats what I am hearing from your post.  Being able to have biological children is just one reason I had RNY.

I had a m/c- then got a little depresses, packed on a couple pounds.  Got pregnant had my daughter...didn't work as hard as I should have and had 15 pounds more then my usual on me...was actively working on it...all the sudden gained weight..was pregnant again. Surprise.   I love my family and babies, so this baby is a blessing.  I am hoping to whip myself back into shape after my baby in the fall.  I did it once, I can do it again.  I have the faith.  I want to be healthy and a good example for my kiddos.  I vow to use faithfully my own BC as DH decided not to be faithful to his end of the bargin. After the baby- the focus is back on my health.  Oh- and I have PCOS too.

Good luck to you on your journey.
