Fetal Heart Arrhythmias

Have any of you gals been thru your pregnancies with baby having a heart arrhythmia?  I noticed the past few days that Baby A's heart beat is skipping constantly.  At it's worst is skips every 3rd beat, and this can go on for a while...then it normals out and then starts skipping again.

I've read up that these can be common so I didn't panic too much since it's the weekend.  I just had my Level 2 ultrasound on Thursday and the tech didn't say ANYTHING about it - she said all looked great.  However, I wasn't picking up the arrhythmia then either.  It just started yesterday morning.

Anyone?  I'm going to call in the morning and just ask if this is something that I should be worried about.  I mean, of course I'm worried, but I'm reading that they tend to resolve themselves most of the time if they just "pop-up" like this one seems to.

TIA...

Hi Sandy,

Did you have a fetal echo-cardiogram with your level 2?  I have one done at 20 weeks with each pregnancy because my son had a small ventricular septal defect.  The specifically look at the heart during the test and can determine if there is any need for concern.

Good Luck

No, they didn't do one of those.  I just got a call back from the nurse and she said the tech just noted "fetal heart tones detected" and nothing further.

The nurse is going to talk to a doc and see what to do.  I'm not too worried about it but it's still concerning.

Thanks!

Sandy,

I have a very good friend that had this with her last baby.  She had the fetal echo done and it wasn't of concern. They watched him a little closer and told her that these normally resolve. Her little boy ended up being just fine...

Yeah, I read that these usually resolve on their own so I'm not freaking out yet.  :-)  I called and the nurse wanted to talk to an OB since they don't get these calls very often - lol.  Yeah, not many moms have a doppler.  ha ha....
I'm sure it will be ok, everything I'm reading seems positive so thats reassuring!

Thanks for your post!!  I like hearing stories with happy endings...

Hey Sandy,

Dylan had one as well.  When he was born he still had it but it had cleared up by his one month appointment.  He has no issues now!

Hugs!

Thanks Heather...do you know how bad his arrhythmia was?  This little girl is skipping every 3rd heartbeat.  My OB sent me to the ER today and they did NOTHING but listen to her on doppler...the same thing I was doing at home - THANK YOU!  Ugh...waste of time and money - now I have an appt tomorrow with that OB.  I don't kow why...she sent me to the ER because she said she didn't have the means to check it out at the office.  Grrr...

Thanks again for the reassurance!  I'm sure she'll be fine...I just want someone to look at it.

Hey Sandy,

Sorry it took me so long.  Dylan's arrhythmia was pretty "standard" .  My dr said it is very common and that he wasn't worried about it.  He did skip quite a bit though. I am not sure how many beats, etc cause I didn't really have a doppler to listen.  Just know that this is fairly common and I am sure things will be fine.

Hugs!
