Dumb Baby Food Question...

I have read that you should give a baby strawberries, raspberries and other berries until after they are 1. So why do they have stage 2 baby food like Strawberry/Apple and Pears/Raspberries?

TIA!

It's an allergy thing and it's generally directed towards strawberries in particular.   They say that fresh strawberries are more likely to cause an allergic reaction, whereas the berries in baby food do not.  It's because the berries are pasteurized when they are cooked in the baby food.

I will say that I have terrible food allergies and strawberries is on my list.  (even though a few years ago I ate a few strawberries because they were that damn good.  Benadryl was my friend that day)  I feed the twins stage 2 food with berries and Dylan just ate a yogurt with strawberries in it.  Neither of them have ever had an allergic reaction.

Jayson and I would surely get along - pear/raspberry is my favorite (I had to try it, lol.)

I was wondering that too...I knew strawberries were an allergy trigger, but I didn't know what made the jar baby food different from the homemade baby food...I tried making my own baby food last week a little because I have always wanted to do that for Aethyn but never knew how or where to start....I must say...it still didn't turn out very well....he hated it and refused to eat it!  I don't know what I am doing wrong!  I am glad you asked this question though as I always wanted to know the answer!  LOL!

You probably aren't doing anything wrong. He might not like the texture or taste. I make some of mine but buy some as well. I just steam whatever it is - put it in my magic bullet and voila... baby food.
I am giving Josiah the apple/strawberry next week... I am sure he will love it. He eats everything and anything. I am afraid he will eat me out of house and home in a few years. LOL

I have just been to afraid to make his own baby food up until this point...I would prefer to make it but am always afraid I will give him something I shouldn't...and DH is always afraid he will choke.  I used the magic bullet too, but I wasn't sure how much to blend it and all.  When we tried giving it to Aethyn he got a look of disgust and spit it out.  He wouldn't open his mouth after that.  LOL!  I guess it needs some work.  Aethyn loves all those flavors...just not mine!  I like the ones with DHA in them.  If Aethyn eats anything like his daddy...I will have to make him get a job!  LOL!!  (Hope he has his dads metabolism too)  Thanks for the reassurance!

Don't feel bad.  For the first 3 months I made all of the kids food.  My son loved it, but he loves anything.  My daughter didn't want to eat.  Finally I broke down and bought baby food.  She loved it.  Obviously she has her fathers tastebuds. LOL

When they are older, I'll cook for them again.  Don't take it personally if Aethyn doesn't like the homemade stuff.

Thanks for the reassurance!  He really didn't like it!  It was my first shot at it though so we will see.  I would prefer to make it for him, but DH is always afraid he is going to choke and I am always afraid that I may accidentally give him something he shouldn't have.

Good question?  IDK?  Skyler and Savannah have always ate all the berry groups and have done fine.  I've never worried about it personally.  The only things I avoid are honey, peanut butter, egg yolks things like that they say needs to wait till they are over 12 months of age.

Good luck!

Ash :)
