I want your HONEST opinions of this name.

My husband is so set on if we have a boy naming it after his grandfather.  His grandparents raised him the first couple of years of his life and they are almost like parents to him.  I hate the name but of course I love his grandfather.  I told him we could do it as the middle name but he is putting his foot down and says it has to be the first name.  What the heck do i do?  I dont want to get in a huge argument about it, especially since we are newly pregnant, its just not worth it.  But what happens if we do have a boy, then what?

So here is the name...Stanley.

When I think Stanely I think of a short chubby gross guy haha.  I know thats wrong but that is just the image I get.

My mind goes RIGHT to South Park...lol, sorry.  You could call him Stan, or by his middle name when you choose that... or pray reallly realllllly hard for a girl!  Good luck!

Would you have to call him Stanley if you named him that?  Would your husband settle for calling him Stan?  I think Stan is OK (not a name I'd choose...but it's OK)...but Stanley?  I think of Flat Stanley.  Either that...or would your DH compromise on calling the baby by the middle name?  Does the grandfather have a middle name you could use instead?

Before praying too hard for a girl...what's the grandma's name?

I don't think that it is horrible, since the intentions are great, I think personally I would probably cave to hubby (Might put up a big fight for a while! lol can't give in too easily) Stan isn't bad.

Hang in there - there's plenty of time to mull over it!

Yah.. I'm not sure about Stanley either.   My husband always "puts his foot down" down on a name but I'm able to come up with  a compromise.    What is his grandfather's middle name??? Maybe you could use that also.
You'll come up with something!   Maybe you'll get a girl! :)

I'm Sorry but i am not a fan of that name. But if it is a family name with a meaning behind it, then yes i do see the point. If i had another boy his name was going to be Boone Coy after my father...not that i am a fan of that either, lol... I prefer different names that you dont hear of everyday, and everyday at school.

You have plenty of time to think it all over. Good Luck to you!

If you hate the name you hate the name.   Go put your foot down and tell him that Stanley is going to be the middle name and that's that.

I don't love the name, but I don't think it's terrible.  It makes me think of the 40's and the movie Brighton Beach Memoirs.  If you have never watched the movie, rent it.  I bet you'll like the name more by the end of the movie.

Is the grandfather's last name the same as yours?  Could it be used as a first name or even middle name?  I don't think Stanley is terrible but it didn't make it on our name list either lol.
I would love to name this baby after my great grandparents, but they have horrible names!
She was Rosa Mae and Lester (not for sure on his middle name...I'll have to find out).  The best I can do is use the middle name Rose, but I have a cousin with that middle name and I really don't want her to think I'm naming the baby after her.   I guess I could use Mae as a middle name, but we live if hicktown, so that would be really country sounding.
Naming babies is a hard job!
Good luck!
Amy
