So the looney farm called and I don't get to wear the pretty white jacket in the special room...

I posted on Tuesday that after my MC in May, I bled consistently for a month then had a super heavy period two weeks ago.  Within the last week I've been craving the scent of dirt, gas and chemicals.

I got the iron test results back yesterday but haven't heard from my doctor yet so I don't know what the plan is or if there will even be one.

My iron was 32 (normal range is 37-145 according to the lab)
However my iron sat is 8% (normal range is 20 - 50%)  From what I understand about this test, it is the percentage of iron that attaches to blood cells?

Hmmmm... Liver and spinach anyone??  My husband asked if I would like for him to grind up some metal for me to put on my cereal - or if I would like a bowl of dirt.  Brat!!!

Yeah, I pass on the liver I think!  I've never had it but the thought is revolting!!!

I've been thinking of you and praying that you get back on cycle and get a BFP soon.  Really, really soon!!!

Thanks Kelly - I see the Dr on the 17th and should get the go ahead!

I can't stand the thought of liver either - now I could eat 10 pounds of spinach!

Well at least you got some answers.
You can totally have my portion of liver too. I'll keep the spinach.
Try iron tabs - I took them prior to RNY for anemia - I never had crazy cravings but they worked for keeping my levels where they were supposed to be at.

I took an iron pill last night but I'm so ignorant about those. Which ones don't cause that ugly side affect????  :)

What's strange is ever since surgery my iron levels have been on the higher side.  I am really feeling it today - really dizzy and just feel exhausted.  Can't even make a coherent sentence....

Have a good day!

Try Carbonyl Iron (I got some TenderIron from VitaLady) online, I guess that's supposed to be the gentlest?  You need to take Vitamin C with it.

Next would be ferrous gluconate or fumarate I believe. Vitron C which you can get locally is one of those- and has vitamin C built in. I take "Celebrate" bariatric iron and that has the C built in as well.

My numbers comparatively were IRON 62 (50-165), FE SAT   19% (20-55) .. Plus my FERRITIN 9 (10-291)... So while my numbers werent as bad as yours, I wasn't taking my iron on a regular basis and definitely need to do it now,.

HTH!!! And glad to know you're not too crazy!

I'm glad your instincts proved right, though I've been battling anemia since February and it sucks!

My mom gave me her cast iron skillet and has been cooking me all kinds of foods with added molasses (which makes me dump), but it's the thought that counts!

I hope you can get your levels back to normal soon, but until you do, stay out of the yard LOL

Hugs,

Jo
