Hey ladies! How are we all tonight? I am a little nervous. I have a CT scan on friday to see what is going on. I am more nervous about the contrast drink then anything else. So has anyone done the ct with the contrast postop? The people at the army hospital didn't know what was in it so they didn't help much (suprise suprise) I am just worried about how I am going to react. any advice would be great!
Thanks

I don't know about having the contrast drink post op or even what's in them....but I had what I think is the same drink years ago (pre WLS) when they were checking to see why I always had heartburn...and they try to make it taste good by adding 'strawberry' (or chocolate or whatever) flavor to it.  It didn't help....it's NASTY.  Then they'd tell me to take a huge mouthful of it and hold it until they were ready for me to swallow it so they could watch it go down.  I managed to keep it down...barely.  Post WLS?  I don't think I'd manage to keep it down.

Whatever you're having the test for...I hope it goes well...and that they've improved the taste...because if mine was strawberry...it wasn't like any strawberry I've ever had before...thank God.

Good luck.

I have had 2 CT scans in the last 4 months...both with contrast.  They still make you drink the contrast even post WLS.  I was not made to drink as much as a normal person, but I had to drink as much as I possibly could.  It was not that bad... I felt a little pukey after I drank it, but not too terribly bad.  I hope this helps!

I have had several post-op CT scans.   I never made it past the first cup for any of them.   My advice is to drink the stuff as fast as you possibly can.  The more you think about it, the nastier it will taste.

Some people don't mind the taste of the contrast.  Some 80 year old sat in the waiting room next to me drinking her stuff in about two seconds.   They will give you a choice of flavors.   I want to say that you need to drink two full cups of the stuff for them to do a decent scan.

I've had a couple myself. No dumping just that "heavy" pouch feeling. I drank 1 container full and then a few sips in the office at the last minute. I don't know why they can't make it taste better! I also believe they let you refrigerate it and it goes down better cold.

Best of luck!

I had one not real long after RNY (3 weeks)...They flavored mine with crystal light...and it still tasted bad.  But I was able to tolerate it...I puked out protein mix..so compared I did good.  I also didn't drink much of it.  I told them I couldn't and they said do your best...my RNY surgeon came to check on me, and he said 1 cup of it.  Okay- I drank one cup (minus the couple oz I just couldn't because I was full) and told them you better get me there ASAP because it will pass along fast.  I was in and out.  Good luck.  It will be fine.
