Before I go into any detail or post a big response, I have two questions -

1 - Have they tested your husband?

2 - Have you had a HSG?

I have several friends (and a sister) who got pregnant over 400 lbs, all had some issues but their babies where healthy.

Thanks for your response.
Yes my husband was tested.
Concentration:           81.8.       Normal is 20+
Motility                          51%.       Normal is 50%+
Fwd Progression         3.          Normal is 2+  Range 0-4
Morphology                 12%.       Normal is 14%+

I was told that his morphology was based oh the Dr. Kruger strict criteria. and the great majority of men do not hit 14%. Most hit 2%-6% so 12% is excellent.

No I have not had a HSG. Just a few internal sonograms.

Looks like DH is doing good in the swimmer department!

Then my suggestion would be to insist on a HSG. I too have PCOS, but it turned out I also had one completly blocked tube and one that was partically blocked! If they hadn't seen that on the HSG I could have tried just about every fertility treatment and it would have done nothing.

After two years of trying, I did Clomid for six cycles, but was resistant, and even at the highest dose it did not work for me (this was at 275 lbs), went on to do injectable/IUI for two cycles which failed, the last cycle we got a little more aggresive (last one before moving to IVF) and I ended up pregnant with triplets (who are healthy and seven years old now!). Doc's told me that my ovaries where basically useless and that I would never be able to get pregnant again because of the amount of scar tissue and cysts that had developed over them.

I got the Lapband two years ago because I was starting to have some health issues and I wanted to stop them before they got out of control. I lost 80 lbs and got down to 220, I was thrilled with the results and actually had thought about going on maintinece because I was happy with the way I looked and felt (I was in the same boat as you, I didn't do it to get skinny, just healthy and I knew that as I got older my health would decline if I did not get my weight under control). To everyone's surprise (including mine) I got pregnant on my own, and I am now 29 weeks pregnant with a little boy. Once I hit about 240 my period started coming every month (for the first time in my life).

Anyway, all of that to tell you to insist on a HSG, and to let you know that it can happen even though you have not lost all your weight, but that in all honestly it might be easier on you and your body if maybe you give it a few more months and a little more time to lose some more weight.

Yes, DH was soooooo nervous when my test results came back normal. But thank goodness he is doing alright. specially his count lol The doc gave him a bravo!

I am seeing the Fetal Maternal Doc this week, then my RE the following week. Who should I ask to do the HSG?

Thank you so much for input and advice. When I see the RE in 2 weeks we will be discussing my plan. Hes going to give me provera to bring on my AF and then do an exam but im not sure if he will put me on clomid right away. We (me, DH, & RE) may decide its best to wait a few months or to lose x amount of lbs. I will keep you posted. Also i want to have that test done... Thank you so much for your suggestions!!

Please do keep me posted, you sound alot like me, and like we have alot in common.

My RE was the one who ordered my HSG, I had to go to the hospital to have it done, it was uncomfortable, but after an hour or two I was 100%, just make sure to take some tylenol or advil before hand, it really makes a big diffrence.

I had PCOS pre-op and only had periods because of birth control -they would come maybe 4-5 times a year with out it. Once I got down to about 250 they are like CLOCKWORK!!! I don't have the band, I had RNY. After talking (lots) to my surgeon and OB/GYN they suggested that I should be to a weight where I had regular periods on my own to get pregnant (once I was past the 18 months - 24 months out). Well I got to 250lbs approx 9 months post op and periods came naturally. I went back on BC pills to be safe. Went off them in January of this year (hovering around 190 pounds and 2 years post op) and was preggo in 3 months without fertility meds. (I was told pre-op I would never have kids). Unfortunately I had a blighted ovum which resulted in a D&E at 11weeks (sac was there but no baby). I see my Dr next week to get the go ahead to start trying agan I hope!

Aside from all of that I never had cyts on my ovaries pre-op with the diagnosis of PCOS. Along with PCOS many women develop insulin resistance. There doesn't have to be the "classic" symptoms along with PCOS. I had some extra facial hair (ya nice huh?) and was put on metformin - what a difference.

I know you don't want to hear about the weight thing but that doesn't mean it isn't an issue. As your weight drops your insulin resistence gets better. There have been studies that thyriod levels can also affect pregnancy (and are affected by weight) thyroid levels that are off can actually PREVENT pregnancy. I've battled that too... There's nothing saying that you can't be 300 pounds and healthy - I was 327 and healthy and I was 24/25 at that time too. Now at 190 pounds and 29 years old I am in the best shape of my life! But that doesn't mean that there isn't "healthier" - just food for thought!

Ok well now that I wrote a novel. Here's to wishing you the best! Good luck with TTC!

hmmm... no one has ever said that before! Thanks for your input!! I had always heard and read that if you have PCOS there are always cysts. Maybe they should change the name lol I will definately look more into this.  When I was first diagnosed I did have the insulin resistance. and I have to agree that dropping the weight has changed that. I just had the GTT (2 hour) and everything was normal!!  I was in shock! I think that is part of what has helpped my testosterone levels get back to normal. I am not sure which is the chicken or the egg but I know they effect eachother.

As far as ovulating regularly or getting monthly flows. I was irregular even at 200lbs. I just dont have faith that the weight is the answer 100%. I am not saying it isnt an issue bc i know it is. I also agree that as healthy as I may be it can only get better with more weight loss. I have to say I am just plain old frustrated. I cant take metformin because it gives me horrible side effects. The weight loss is slow... I was deffinately hoping to be farther along at 16mths post op. My NP at my surgeons office keeps telling me fewer calories but i have been stalled for 3 months now!! i think im not eating enough. I work out soo much and the number just wont budge. i get in all my protein i am just at a loss right now and unbelievably frustrated. I had a plan ya know. I wanted to have my first kid at 25 which i know sounds childish and i know man plans G-d laughs but im angry and frustrated and i want to move on and move forward with my life. This is the next step ya know. Im scared and my husband has no clue what to do with me although he is supportive he could never understand so here i am. I know the list of cons may be longer than the list of pros to TTC right now.

either way i didnt mean to go off on a rant like that. I am greatful for your novel! I wish you much luck on TTC and hope your doc appt goes well!!
