22 Week OB Appointment
Hi Ladies--
This morning I had my 22 week OB appointment and everything seems to be progressing well. Urine is normal, BP is normal, and my total weight gain is 14 pounds. Baby's heart rate is "perfect" and I really wish I could feel this little guy! (Dang anterior placenta!) Hopefully in the next two weeks I'll finally feel fetal movement.
My OB and I discussed delivery options....I brought it up. I've been doing a lot of reading and researching about birth experiences, delivery options, etc. and I'm looking at various birth prep classes at local hospitals. But, given my specific medical and surgical history, I wanted to initiate a conversation with my OB. He and I are in agreement that a scheduled c-section would be my safest option. See, in addition to having an open RNY gastric bypass, and an open revision/hernia repair, I've had an ovarian surgery (via laparotomy) and a rectal surgery. The laparatomy is basically the same incision as a "smiley" c-section but not as deep....it doesn't go through the uterus. In the event I delievered vaginally, the pressure could cause the rectal repair to come undone. I kid you not when I say I'd rather have any of the abdominal /pelvic surgeries I've had previously again over redoing the rectal surgery. I never knew real pain until I had that done! When your pooper isn't happy, you ain't happy!
So, a c-section it is...and I'm both sad and relieved about it. I'm signing up for a c-section class. Has anyone else taken one?
After my OB and I finished our discussion, he wrapped his arm over my shoulders and escorted me leisurely down the hallway as I left the office. I so *love* this man! And the thick, French accent is frosting on the cake!

There was not a specific c-section class at my hospital. I know that c-sections are covered in the regular birthing class. But, to be honest with you if I had known I was going to have a vaginal delivery I probably wouldn't have taken that class either. Since you will have a several nurses there that are going to walk you through the birth step by step. I had a sort of planned c-section. I was scheduled for 3/6 but my water broke on 3/1 so we had an emergency c-section. I have to say it was the easiest recovery! I would do it over again in a heartbeat.
Congrats on getting past half way! With the anterior placenta it takes a while to feel the kicks...but when you start to feel them its the greatest feeling. I didn't feel any movement until 20-22 weeks since my placenta was also anterior.

Hello,
I had an unplanned emergency c section and thank God I took a birthing class. It was a 6 week class and one of the weeks was on c sections. I did pay attention but kept thinking this is pointless because I am not having one but guess what.....I did. The class was nice because you can kind of know what to expect to some extent. I had a great experience with my c section and so I recomend it to anyone that needs one. I havent had my lab band surgery yet but my next baby will be post surgery and I am going to have a c section again. My small town hospital doesent do vaginal after c section deliveries so I have to go that route. I wish you luck and everything should be fine. One thing they didnt tell me is that right after they delivered my son I suddenly felt like I was going to throw up and they said oh thats normal and I just turned my head to the side because thats all I could move and they held a rag out and I threw up and then I was fine. It would of been nice to know that could happen ahead of time!!! Good luck!
