As a mother of a child with autism I am incensed for you! I plan on delaying the MMR too. There is not much more I can say, other than thank you for the warning and I'm so sorry this happened to you!

OMFG!!!!!!!! I can't believe that happened.... ((HUGS)))

We are on a very delayed vaccine schedule with Josiah (we found a family doctor/DAN doctor who had a son with Autism) He works with us on a schedule we feel comfortable with. Our nurse always comes in with a sheet and explains whatever the shot is so we can read about it while she is getting the shot. Did the nurse do that?

Not that it makes any difference now but for your other baby... I found this on www.thevaccinebook.com

Return of Separate Measles, Mumps, Rubella Vaccines Planned for 2011

Friday, May 15, 2009

I received official word from a Merck representative that the company plans to resume production of the separate M-M-R component vaccines. They anticipate these becoming available in 2011 (no actual month specified). This is good news for those parents who want the vaccines separated, but the two year wait will leave some kids unprotected. In my MMR blog from January (http://www.askdrsears.com/thevaccinebook/archives/2009_01_01_archive.asp) I discuss all the ins and outs of deciding whether or not to do the full MMR. Delaying it definitely puts children at risk of catching these diseases. Parents have to weigh all the information and decide what to do. The good news is that it looks like the separate shots will be back. I will certainly let you know as soon as they become available in 2011.

Thanks for the info, It will be really cool if they do separate the vaccine and it would come out around the time Niklas will need his MMR.

Let me give you a bit of happy news -- only 5% of all autism cases are girls.  Girls just don't seem to have the problem that boys do.

I knew it was less for girls but I didn't know it was that low, thanks Andrea that is some good news.

I am so sorry to hear that this happened. WHile I haven't made my decision yet about vaccines I would be infuriated if anyone did something to my child without my consent. I Would at least write a letter to the Dr office and get everything documented.

Thanks Liz. All day I have been documenting everything I can remember about yesterday and her previous appt's and what was said about waiting on the MMR. Robert has done the same and he called today to talk to the office manager but she wasn't in today so he left a message to have her call him back ASAP. It will be interesting to see if she has any idea about what happened. I know after our doctor talked to that nurse she told her that she better document what had happened. I talked to my Dad about it and he is going to talk to a lawyer friend and see what he has to say about it. I'm still not sure if I want to go that route but I know I wouldn't want this to happen to anyone else.

Better to have everything documented immediately then you can decide later if you want to persue anything!

I am sure your little girl will be just fine :)

I believe you need to sign for EVERY vaccine given to your child.  That being said, this happened to a friend of mine with their son...the nurse went and gave it to him thinking that they'd want it just because it was due.  The doctor told my friend if she made a complaint, he'd have to fire her and he was willing to do it because it is NOT OK for that to happen - EVER.

I am not against vaccines but I did the SAME thing with the MMR with Kellen.  We don't have any autism in our families but we do have other neuro disorders.  I thought I'd wait until his kindergarten shots to do it.

I'm so sorry this happened to you!  I had no idea about this when we got Holden his shots...and I cried my eyes out when it came time to make the decision with Kellen.
