Transition to Milk

I need other wise mom's experiences..My ped told me at 1 year that I should transition Sophie to Milk.  He inquired what type of milk we drank (1%) and told me to put Sophie on that...he said that because she eats meat, veggies, fruits, bread, etc..she has a balanced diet and she didn't need the "fat" in the whole milk.  Fine..works for me.  Sophie will be 1 in less then a week...OMG how did that happen..that's another post!  But I thought I should try a bottle with milk...so put straight milk into her usual bottle and she chugged it.  I was shocked, then concerned- how much milk should I give her at a time, and does she get this inplace of her formula (i.e. if she drank 4 or 5 -6oz bottles of formula is that what I give of milk).  I know she does okay with milk products so I wasn't concerned about allergies- but rather the amount she should have in a day.  I will ask her ped, when I see him mid month...but I thought I should get others advice.  Thanks!!

By age 1, my kids were eating a pretty routine and balanced diet so formula was only added here and there after meals. So the transition to milk was the same. At first, it was food only them sippy cup of milk. Then they adjusted to realize milk could be with meal but food was the priority.

I am not sure if it is this easy for all kids but so far, all 3 of mine did it that way.

When life hands you lemons, ask for tequila & salt and give me a call!

I changed Quade about a week ago (his bday is today). I try to give it to him milk mostly with sippy cups as I want to get rid of the bottle as soon as possible. He eats 3 full meals + snacks now and should be getting all that he needs from that . He is still taking a bottle of milk at night and first thing in the morning but that is about it.

When Sophie's at home she probably drinks about 12oz of formula during entire day the day most when she gets up and goes for bed...but at daycare because they aren't feeding her "meals" just  jars of baby food... she takes more formula.  We are working on the sippy cup thing...but it's slow.  I worry that she'll dehydrate since she doesn't get many fluids.  Ugh- being a first time mommy.  Perhaps I will work with the daycare to increase the meals so we can decrease the need of bottles... But the change to milk I don't see being an issue because she seems to like it.  But if given a choice of food or milk..she wants food.  Which is a good sign because she snubbed food for a long time..now she likes almost everything.

OH- And HAPPY BIRTHDAY QUADE!  (Mine is tomorrow, Sophie's is Sunday!)  Summer birthdays are fun.  Hope Quade has a wonderful first birthday!

From what I've always known, that they should be on whole mil****il the age of 2, because they need the fat from it. Then 1 or 2% after that.
