Sooo, this might be a really stupid question but here goes...
A couple of you have told me that you should increase your calorie intake by 300 now that i am pregnant.
So what is that for a total each day. I dont really count my calories each day anymore and dont really know how much i do eat.
So again, how many calories total should i eat now that i am pregnant?

I have lost 112lbs since my surgery in November of 2007. Ready for a baby now.
you think that'll be enough?
This is what a normal day for me is
Breakfast: Nothing
Lunch: Either Cottage Cheese and Hummus
or a cup of soup like chicken pot pie or fire rasted tortilla
or 2 oz salmon or fish
Dinner: Either Tilapia Fillet
or half a piece of baked chicken
Snack: Either Chips (I know I know haha)
or Ice cream
or a few crackers
As you can see the night time is that hardest for me.
So with seeing that, if I just add a glass of milk or 300 calories, do you or anyone else out there think that is ok while pregnant?
Thanks
Shannon

If it were me, I'd do a glass of milk for breakfast (if you do skim, that's 90 cals -- if you do 1% that's more like 150), and a glass of milk for a late snack.
There's the benefit of the extra calcium -- which we desperately need during pregnancy. Each glass of milk has about 300mg of calcium which is MUCH better absorbed than any supplement we could take and that calcium will keep baby from stealing YOUR calcium-filled bones.

I would like to add that now that you are pregnant it is important to add some good carbs into your diet. It isn't good for baby to be in ketosis. And it is a good idea to eat some protein with some carbs so that they balance each other. I eat say string cheese and a few crackers for a snack, or a tortilla with a little cheese, or a piece of toast with peanut butter. Good luck. shari
