Since about 530 last night Nathan has been going up and down on a fever that has reached 103. I have stripped his clothes, gave him a cold bath, wet rag, etc. He is a little whiny but drinking his bottle fine....it is going up and down....am going to call pedi in about 30 minutes...no teeth that I see....when do you start to freak and any other fever reducers? (btw, he has had tylenol every 3 - 4 hours)....can I switch to ibuprofen? he had two diapers of diahrea too but nothing since that yesterday afternoon...

TIA....

When my kids had fevers like that I would alternate tylenol and motrin.  Like tylenol, then 3 hours later a dose of motrin.  It helped keep it down, but I would definitely see what the doctor says.

Hope he gets better soon.

Some peds with suggest Motrin and Tylenol alternating. Some peds recommend trying to let the fever break itself if possible, as that helps the body run it's cycle.

But alot of it does depends on age, weight, and other symptoms. It sounds like he isn't having any other common symptoms that go with a fever, so it's definately a good idea to call doc.

I hope Nathan feels better soon and it's just a "teething" or fluke thing. Make sure you let us know.

HUGS!

When life hands you lemons, ask for tequila & salt and give me a call!

Niko is just getting over his second battle with high fever(over 102. in babies). His get up to 105-106. They don't know why he's having them, but my MIL says both her boys had this periodically when they were litte. He has no other symptoms. If it happens again, the docs are going to do blood work. Anyway, usually when it's teething, this happens BEFORE the teeth come in. Niko's ped has me give him baby motrin and tylenol at the same time and follow the weight and time chart on both. I would call your ped to make sure he doesn't have an ear infection or something like that---just to make sure. I hope he gets better. It's rough on baby and mommy.

Personally, I start freaking when it gets to 103 and above.

I'm not even going to attempt to give med advice.  LOL

a 103 fever isn't from teething.

if you can't get it to go down and stay down he needs to be seen imo.

Motrin can be given in babies over 6m old and IMO works better with fevers than tylenol.  How is he doing now?

You can 'piggyback' motrin and tylenol.  I have had to do it a few times with Dylan.  I hope Nathan feels better soon!
