12 1/2 weeks pregnant, 3 years post op
Hi all...
I am popping in to gain advice/commiseration/comfort lol.
I am about 3 years post op and am now 12 1/2 weeks along with my 2nd child. My daughter is 14 so its been a while since I was pregnant!
For me so far with the pregnancy is major blood sugar issues. I am finding that if I DO NOT EAT without fail every 100-120 minutes I crash hard hard hard. Tunnel vision, terribly nausea, dizziness to passing out, etc.
Hypoglycemic crash anyone?
Its even happening in the middle of the night. How queer is it to be woken ready to pass out?
I am doing my best to eat well: apple and cheese, apple and peanut butter, banana, meat, etc. I do NOT want to gain more than 25 lbs or so if I can help it. I already had gained weight back this past year because of issues with my neck and back that were inhibiting me from exercising and moving. I had gotten down to 160 , wearing around a 10-12, now I am back to a 16. ::whine sigh cry::
Hey at least I hadn't had the tummy tuck and breast lift yet, or the hernia fixed! I was trying to get into a solid 10 before I had plastics, but... ah well. It will all happen in good time.
Anyone else out there that is going through or has gone through the same extreme hypoglycemic issues? I am really getting heartily sick of well, being sick! and having to eat so often. It has to be protein and some sugars to abate the sickness and bring my sugar back up. Its SO FRUSTRATING!!!!

Hi Kathie,
I only had a few issues when expecting my son with hypoglycemia but it was never on a daily basis... I hope that things get better for you there though as that's gotta be a rough thing... I did have moments, usually only when I was awake, where I knew my blood sugar had dropped... I was standing at the microwave one day waiting on the food I was heating up and almost dropped to the floor... My b/f was there thank god and he helped me get to a chair then grabbed me something sweet and it passed after a few mins...It's scary, I know!
I would mention to your OB that you are having these issues and perhaps they can recommend something to help you deal with this throughout your pregancy... Goodluck to you and I hope you find some relief soon... Oh and welcome to the board!

Congratulations! I can't answer your questions re the hypoglycemia...haven't had that issue...but wanted to wish you a happy and healthy 9 months.
I am also 3 years post-op, and about 6 1/2 weeks pregnant w/my 2nd child...and have a 14 year old son.
I hope you find some useful info re your blood sugar issues...and that they go away soon, not lasting the entire pregnancy.

Thanks girls! Its frustrating. I just hope I can manage it and not have to wind up on something to treat it. Urgh.
I was talking to my SIL the other day who is a tiny lil thing (five foot tall and about 105 lbs). She had a terrible time of it just like I have had. Being so little she has always been hypoglycemic, and I have been too, though mine has gotten much more tenacious since my RNY.
Thanks again...I will let y'all know how I do as it goes along. :c)

I can certainly relate. I had hypoglycemia before being pregnant but it was mild. Once I became pregnant, even with a good diet (eating every three hours, protein each time, very limited simple carbs, etc.), my blood sugar would bottom out several times a day--and yes, even in the middle of the night. Physical activity, even short casual walks, would make it plummet. There was very little warning, and symptoms were extreme. It would take 1-2 cups of OJ to finally bring it back up, and whole crackers with cheese to stabilize it. I had to carry both in my purse and I had stashes at work and in both cars. My OB promised it would abate after the first trimester when the baby would stabilize everything. He was right, although it took a bit longer (into my fifth motnh) but then I had NO problems. It was like night and day. Hopefully you'll feel better than ever soon!
