Glucose Testing??
Hello All-
I haven't been around much, but now I have a question! I am 2 1/2 years post op and I am currently 24 weeks pregnant. It's time to do the glucose testing and I don't feel I would tolerate it al all. I had the distal Roux-en-y and I don't eat more than 9-10 grams of sugar at a time. Did anyone have any alternate testing for this during their pregnancy??
Thanks for your help! :)

I had a fasting blood test and it came back fine.
If you don't feel you should do the regular testing - insist that they give you an alternative. A lot of doctors don't seem to be educated enough on WLS to know that we don't tolerate sugar - so you may have to stand up for yourself.
Congrats on your pregnancy though!

I did the Hemoglobin A1C. There was NO way I was going to do the regular one. It wouldn't be accurate anyway, because with RNY you don't absorbs sugars like everyone else.
Ask about alternatives. I know there are a few different ways docs can do it.

When life hands you lemons, ask for tequila & salt and give me a call!
Thanks to you both. The fasting blood test is on the docket at the next appointment. My doctor has had previous WLS patients that were able to to the glucose testing so she was curious if I would be able to. I had to explain that not all patients have the same surgery or the same results. She is going to contact a high-risk doctor and see if there are any other possibilities.
Thanks again for your suggestions! :)

There are other test they can do like the other ladies said. I would tell your Dr NO! I know i cant tolerate sugar at all so the Dr said that's okay there's other tests that can be done. I would just explain you CAN'T at all unless the Dr.'s going to come clean your puke and diarrhea up. hehe
Good Luck
