Need honesty....C section ppl please help!!
Hi,
My first c-section was an emergency one, and I couldn't (it hurt so much) get out of bed until the second day, although they tried to encourage me to. I went home three days later and was going up and down the stairs the first day, no problem.
My second c-section was planned, so it was much easier. I got out of bed the first day out, and felt relatively okay.
I'll echo what Angie said -- the pain pills are KEY! This second time, I thought I was feeling fine and missed a dose, and *wow* did it hurt! I needed all those meds! And I did breastfeed while taking them.
HTH!

I had a c-section and for me recovery was a breeze! I was up out of bed as soon as the spinal wore off. I've always heard to get moving as quick as possible would make recovery easier. I drove myself to the ob office the Monday after my c-section to have my staples removed. I was able to do everything for myself and my lo while in the hosptial...it was a little sore but nothing unbearable. I climb my stairs 7 or 8 times a day as soon as I came home. Of course everyone's surgery and pain tolerance is different. I know if we decide to have another in a couple years I'm definitely going for another c-section.
I had an unplanned s-section..they wouldn't allow me to get up until the next day. (My section was at 2:30 / 3:00pm). I was allowed out of bed the next morning around 6 or 7am, because I was pesting to get up. So they pulled my cath and let me up. I was fine...I walked the hospital, cared for the baby in the room, visited, packed up stuff, showered. I only took regular tynl. I did take vicodin at night to help with sleep because I move all around, it it makes me tired too (I can never sleep away from home). I filled a script for them (vicod.) at home and took 4 or 5 total, again at night. I was sore getting in and out of the car, and when the muscles or tissue was healing it had a burning feeling. My DH was hospitalized about 5 days after my daughter was born so I cared for her all by myself (up and down the stairs) and took her to visit (i.e. carried the car seat carrier- which I wouldn't recommend) Well-anyways, I feel it was a reasonable recovery..sore yes..and it lasted weeks until the swelling and soreness went away. I fully needed my 8 weeks for recovery, although I felt pretty good most of the time. I did get tired and I hurt sometimes. I certainly didn't carry laundry baskets and wasn't doing housework stuff (basic baby laundry yes). Try not to worry to much.
After I had the triplets, the nurses where after me to get out of bed as soon as I could feel my legs completely. I was up and out of bed within five hours of the c-section, walking normally by the next day, and was discharged after three days. I never took any pain medication besides advil because we lived two hours from the hospital that the babies where in and I had to drive there and home every day, I was behind the wheel and doing the commute at four days post c-section. I was pain free in about two weeks, but I never sat down for those two weeks because was always at the hosptial and running between the three babies for feedings, changing and such.
Personally I believe it has to do with your personal pain threshold, how you heal and how willing you are to move after surgery. I find that the quicker I get moving, the faster I feel better, no matter what the surgery.

I had my c-section late Wednesday night (she was born at 1120pm) and was up walking to the nursery at 5am! Obviously with the help of pain meds, but I could still feel it. I was released on Saturday afternoon. I was up every 3-4 hours to BF and was shopping within a few days. I also went up north and walked around a craft fair 1.5 weeks post c-section. It all depends on how traumatic it is and what level of pain you can handle.

I had severe complications and ended up back in the hospital...and my daughter was in nicu for awhile too. I don't say this to scare you, I had some underlying issues. The thing is that your mommy body takes charge and you get through whatever you have to do. It hurts, and you are tired...but you find ways to cope and be with your baby, but a couple of weeks and a routine will form. It does help to have a really good support system. Mine did laundry, household stuff, cooking, dishes.... I took care of little one with hubby. I was also able to take naps which were needed for my complications and healing.
You are gonna be fine. Momma's do it every day. Shari

i think everyone is different based upon pain tolerance...
it was a breeze for me EXCEPT the second night...had major gas pain and thought I was going to die....the nurse gave me some nummy drugs and heat pads and it was better....was in hospital from tue - fri....and at home did great....
so i think it is all relative to the person....you will do great! and hopefully the baby will sleep longer than 2 hours...mine did :)
good luck
