Breastfeeding, Vitamins and Project Vomit

I know most of you ladies are RNYers.... but I thought I'd ask your opinions.

I take Vita4Life  (www.vita4life.org) the "Plus" version.

I had stopped them during pregnancy and replaced with my own ****tail of vits with less  "A".

I started taking them again this past week.  And yesterday Cooper projectile vomited and was spitting up all day (a lot of spit up).  No fever.... he's still pooping and peeing.

Could it be my vitamins?

Do foods/meds/vitamins only get into the breast milk AFTER they get absorbed?  (Because I malabsorb a lot)  Or could they be getting to him sooner and in higher doses?

The dilema :

My levels are dipping pretty low --- in selenium, zinc, iron, D and A.  I NEED for my health to take my vitamins again.

But is this what is causing Cooper's fussiness ?

Any thoughts are appreciated.  I did stop breast feeding him as of last night.....  (He's been getting both formula and breast milk this whole time.)   So far he seems less fussy and no more projectile vomitting.

I gave in and let him suck my breast for a few minutes this afternoon and he spit up a big mouthful....  could my milk be hurting him???

I'm no expert on BF nor DS, but I'm guessing the timing of the vitamins and spit up are just coincidental and may have more to do with the switch to complete formula. Did you run it by the pediatrician or the local La Leche group?

Unfortunately, most babies spit up. It seems to get worse around 2 weeks. Some even do it with force, but as my ped told us, projectile vomiting is when they are sitting on your lap facing out, and it hits a few feet on the floor in front of you. If it just lands in your lap or on your feet, it's still considered spit up and is normal.

I'm sure others will have more experience with the DS and BF, but when it comes to experience with spit up and PV, I rule x2! LOL

Thanks!  Glad I'm not the only one who has to deal with PV.

(Although he hasn't done it again since....thank goodness!)

I have limited my breastfeeding.  (Which makes me sad)

No one - doctors or lacation consultants really know about my surgery or the extreme amount of vits I take....

I will use my mommy instinct and when he really gets sick I am going to panick!  heh.....

THANK YOU!!
