In addition to all the other good advice, I recommend getting into a swimming pool. The combination of the water pressure, the reduced gravity, and the movement really seems to help reduce the swelling.

I second the pool/bath! I went in the pool today and was shocked at how great my ankles and feet looked when I got out, the swelling was almost completely gone (not to mention giving me a rest from the back and ligament pain for a while!)

Eat something with PUMPKIN in it!  It's an old Korean remedy but it REALLY worked for me.  The next day my Shrek feet and legs were GONE.  The swelling, I mean...my feet are still attached.  :-)
