swelling
Hello guru board of infinate knowledge....
I need some info on cankles or remotely these elephant like legs that mine have become.
It started yesterday afternoon and my legs, ankles, and feet are so swollen. I know that this is normal, but is there a reason? Is there anything I can do about it?
It has been a very long 2 days b/c I have been on emergency duty for work with a hospitalized client so I haven't gotten to rest alot, but this has me slightly worried as my joints are sore now too. Knees, hips, ankles, and lower back.
Any info, shared horror stories or whatever is appreciated.
Thanks,
Victoria

Sorry no advice since this is my first pregnancy but just wanted to sympathize. I have not encountered any swelling yet but am keeping a watch since I am on my feet most of the time at work. I would think if you have had a couple of busy days to try and up your water and rest/ elevate your legs as much as possible. Do you hapen to know is your blod pressure ok? I hope just geting of your feet helps the swelling go down!

My BP is atually still a little on the low/good side. They are pretty happy with it since it was high pre op. I was hoping since my body was 'used' to hefting me around at 415 pounds that this wouldn't be so bad. I never had problems like this then so I guess it is all b/c of the hormones and excess blood volume. good luck in preventing it.

Hey there....
Yes the swelling sucks....I had adema before pregnancy so my doc said it was fine to take my dieuretic ONCE IN AWHILE to help but make sure to drink lots and lots of water.....but other stuff to help are things like.....
- Reduce caffeine if you are drinking it....
- Elevate feet as much as possible...they say to put it over your heart so you will have to have some pillows piled up
- Drink more and more and more and more and more water
- Reduce sodium intake as much as possible
- When you can walk....
Those were some of my tips...a nice bath helps too....and have hubby rub your feet :)
Hope you get to relax soon....hugs!

I didn't have a problems with this when I was much heavier so I was hoping (against hope) that I wouldn't have a problem, but ... oh well.
My sodium and caffine intake have been higher lately however, I haven't been showing any dehydrations signs b/c I was watching for them. But last night when it was the worst I felt like you so when you finish swimming in the ocean, like my skin was covered in salt and I was craving some major ice water. So maybe caffine and sodium is the key here.
Thanks for the advice.

I have been trying to rest, it's not really as easy as possible with everything at work right now, but my feet (or rather my left foot b/c my right isn't that bad) are down to about half the size that they were yesterday. It's taking a much longer time than it took for them to get that big. ugh!
Do you have frequent recurrent problems with this still?

I'm not really sure I want to induce peeing... I am barely escaping the bathroom as it is now... but then again... my feet are huge!
My new work position is way less demanding than my old one, but I seem to have severely overdone it this weekend. And then my client ended up in the ER and my resting got pushed back alot. hopefully I can just take it as easy as possible this week and it will improve.
Thanks,
victoria

Oh how I remember cankles with my 1st PG. I was wearing open back clogs that my feet only fit halfway into - sucked in the winter months. I did develop hypertension and PE, but I know you're already aware of the warning signs of that.
I second all the advice especially upping your fluid intake and side rest. Chipped ice was my best friend. Thankfully it's the season of open toed shoes and sandals, so you can get away with wearing flip flops for now LOL
I hope you find some relief or at least a decent foot massage to help alleviate the pressure.
