Blood Drawn on Infant: Advice Needed
Holden had blood drawn from arm and from his finger. I don't think Tylenol is necessary since it's not actually painful like shots, they just freak out about a needle going into the arm. I had to lie on top of Holden while they used the butterfly type of needle and they had to DRAW it out of his arm vein. Oh he screamed and I cried along with him! That part is painful (I've had it done myself) but it only lasts as long as the draw.
When he had his platelets checked, they *****ed his finger and squeezed the bajeebers out of it to fill a vile like the one Samara explained. He didn't give a rat's booty about that one, he thought it was funny!

Daniel had blood drawn when 6wks old (that was fun -- they HAD to use a vein), an iron / hgb/ and lead test at 12 months (finger) and recently a blood test to rule out a bacterial infection (finger).
If it's a finger stick, they generally stick, then sqeeze enough blood into a capilary tube connected to a tiny vial. Daniel didn't fuss for the stick or the squeeze and was only pissed off when the bandaid was put on and couldn't come off. THAT caused the most trauma to his little ego.
Kaitlin was similar -- she only complained when the bandaid went on. Just a rule -- KEEP THE BANDAID ON. If they start to really fuss, the clotting factors get all screwed up and I honestly thought Kaitlin was bleeding to death once. It turned out to be minor, but she bled steadily for about 45 minutes from that little *****

It's so tough on Moms when our babies need to be poked and prodded, but it's relatively pain-free and quick at that age. Under 2 years, Ethan gave through foot and then finger. Never actually cried until they were done. I did not give Tylenol before or after and he didn't appear to have any discomfort.
As a toddler and again last year it was a veinous draw and they gave him topical lidocaine and a sedative. Nothing for me, unfortunately.
Nathan will do great and it will be over long before he realizes it began. Try not to worry (yeah, right!) and I'm praying for really good results all the way around!
Hugs,
