Blood Drawn on Infant: Advice Needed

In the morning, Nathan is going to get a blood draw test (to rule out a genetic disorder on Nate's family side)....I forgot to ask the doctor on Friday how much blood they need....online it says it can be from a ***** on the finger....hope that is the case...

So, have you had any blood draws done on your infant (Nathan is 7.5 months)? If so, how much and where did they draw the blood from? Also, do you suggest giving him some tylenol before the test?

TIA,

Ann

Emad had his blood drawn at his 9 mth well baby visit, routine part of the process as they check for anemia and other issues at his pedi. The did a heel stick and then squeezed the blood into a tube/vial for the test. Similar to the one when they are first born but more blood and into a tube versus on the paper card. It was relatively painless and after the shock of the initial stick he was okay. I do not think they will actually need a veinous draw. I would say the tube was about a quarter the size of my pinky finger and about the in diameter. Hope that helps. Good Luck!

I did, but I think it was because he also ended up with a vaccination. It did not seem to bother him at all afterwards and only got a tiny bruise.
He is doing well, thanks. He is going through another adjustment phase and throwing me for a loop with a new sleep schedule...wants to stay up later and sleep in longer...so that is weird and frustrating at the same time, especially during the work week, not so much on the weekend as I love sleeping in...lol
I will post some pics soon I hope, guess with Facebook I forget to post on here as well.

I'm not sure how much blood they need, but when we had to get Logan and Andrew's hemoglobin level checked, they just *****ed their big toe and got a drop of blood.  They didn't even care about it,they watched the nurse, like 'why are you touching my foot?'

No, I didn't give them any tylenol, they seemed fine without it.  They are getting so big, getting into everything!
