Fertility Treatments?

Hello! I'm new to this board. I had RNY about 7 months ago - Not ready to start ttc yet but we are starting to think about the possiblility in the upcoming year (Closer to the year mark...)

I have a question - Not sure if I should be posting this on the pcos board or here. I have been diagnosed with PCOS since I was 14 - after losing weight were any of you able to conceive without the use of medication? Or, if you weren't, was fertility medication helpful?

I'm just questioning this now because if I do need fertility drugs I should start saving now!!!

I think in some cases it i**** or miss, I know some people who had to use fertility treatments even after weight loss, for me, I had to do over a years worth of treatments before surgery to get pregnant, and then after surgery I was not even trying at all and got pregnant (even though docs told me it would never happen).

I have PCOS (alot of us on here do) and I couldn't get pregnant before RNY. The Dr's told me I was so big I wasn't ovulating and if I did get pregnant I may lose it. After I had WLS and lost my weight I started taking Metformin (alot of us on here have taken that too) but I was already pregnant come to find out. I owe my pregnancy to WLS!!! Good Luck!!

I too had PCOS for years, WLS luckily for me resloved it for me, it does for some and not for others. But I had to fertility treatments in the past but was able to get pregnant twice on my own after the WLS with no fertility treatments!
Best of luck to you!
Beth

You guys are amazing and give me hope!!

Thank you!

I have lost a little over 100 pounds - have about 45 left to go - and I'm still not ovulating so I'm thinking metformin is calling my name...

As the previous posters said, its kind of hit or miss.  Many people go on after WLS to get pregnant easilly, but others don't.  So, start saving.  Not so much just for the fertility drugs, but for the little one you want to bring into the world!  Good luck!
