Ashlie,

When my four year old was an infant, she ate about every 3 hours at night until she was about 2 1/2 - 3 months old, and then she slept maybe 5 hours at night.

Now, my son is 7 weeks old and eats every 3 to 4 hours at night.  I'm exhausted!  I feel like I'm stuck on a merry-go-round and I can't get off!  But I know this will end soon -- maybe another month or so, and he should be sleeping through most of the night, hopefully.  The first few months are rough, sleep-wise, but you do adapt.  I find I can function better than I think on very little sleep.  I yawn a lot.

As everyone said, sleep when the baby sleeps!  At first, you'll want to get stuff done when the baby is asleep, but soon you'll take advantage of the opportunity to catch some zzzz's!

Man, I thought I was going to have a breakdown the week I was supposed to go back to work.  Kellen woke every 2 hours at first, then every 3 by 2 months...then twice a night by 3 months.  HOWEVER, he had reflux.  He was a sloooooow eater, I had to hold him upright for 20-30 minutes with each feeding, and make sure he didn't throw-up once I did lay him down.  I'd often have to change his clothes and clean him up because of it, plus I wanted to make sure he didn't choke.  Each feeding took almost 45 minutes, then I'd have to wind myself back down so I could sleep.  I remember pleading and bargaining with God one night the week I was supposed to go back to work.  THEN, all of a sudden he started sleeping thru the night or went down to one feeding at like 4 am and then I was laid off the DAY I went back to work...so it all worked out!  HA!

I was sooo sleep deprived and couldn't nap with him.  I had a 3.5 year old at the time also.  You get used to it during the day but I really struggled with it at night when I had to get up with him and stay up for so long!

Good luck...every baby is different so ya never know!  I wish you the best!

Just nap when the baby naps and don't worry about the housework.   Sleep is more important.  Hannah is 16 months old and still doesn't sleep through the night.  I work full time.  I'm tired, but I'm surviving!

My daughter was up every 3 hours on the dot until she was just about 3 months old. She started sleeping for 8-9 hours. She then started sleeping 10-12. She is going to be 15 months old and in the past month she has been waking up at night (nothing to do with eating). Now its kind of comfort all she wants me to do is hold her, and I even tell her if she dosent lay on mommy she is going in her bed, so as soon as her head comes up from my chest I say Ok Ny going in her bed and she lays back down on me...LOL I dont like getting up but I love holding her because at this age they dont want to be held anymore, too much to do and play with. I had a HARD time getting up every 3 hours at first and I was a miserable b*tch, but soon learned that its not forever and one day I will be asleep for a long time. This time around I am going to try my hardest to be more relaxed and not be so frustrated. Good Luck Hun.

LOL my imeditate response is whenever they want !!
Both of my kids slept through the night a few weeks after birth. I was determined to get them on a schedule and it worked well. We had a nap routine and night time routine. Kam was 4 weeks old and slept 9 pm to 6 am before waking for a bottle but then fell asleep again by 9 to 11. He also had a afternoon nap from about 2 to 4. we did this for almost the first year.

Lola was the same.. just earlier with her naps and earlier to bed.

I bottle fed kam and BF Lola. it will work itself out.

I am a sleeper - always have been and unfortunately am I am not. LOL j/k

Josiah started sleeping through the night around 6 weeks. (Thank you Jesus) He woke up 3-4 times in the beginning though. I tried to breastfeed and that didn't work so we did the bottle thing. Perhaps that helped?? I don't really know. I was SO incredibly sleep deprived in the beginning...you just sort of adjust. Nap when the baby naps and pray for an extra 5 minutes here and there.

Every baby is different so as much as you want to prepare I don't think you can.

EVERY BABY IS DIFFERENT! LOL

my 1st....slept thru night by 3 weeks
my 2nd.....didn't sleep thru the night till he was over 2!!!
my 3rd....slept thru the night by about 8 weeks
my fourth....he is 10 weeks, not sleeping thru the night yet, up about every 4 hours or so.

So your worry about getting no sleep is valid and realistic. I continue to be exhausted, I feel like a zombie and I never feel rested. But it's what mommies do. You get through it.

When life hands you lemons, ask for tequila & salt and give me a call!

Hey, you might just get lucky!!  Libby started sleeping through the night at a month old.  Before that, she woke up every 3 to 4 hours.  She was a breastfed baby so there were time I would wake up and be in pain so I would wake her up to eat just so I could get some relief!  Now, she is almost 9 months old and for the last month she has been waking up once a night.  I read something this morning about this age group waking up just to make sure Mommy or Daddy is there because they are going through the stages of separation anxiety.  Most definitely what it is!!
