I know for almost a month my little guy was sitting/laying/jumping on my sciatic nerve.  My pain was lower/back and shot down my butt/hip.

My OB suggested a physical therapist (who does massage).  I was lucky.... my baby choose that time to switch from breech to "head-down" and that relieved the pressure!

I hope your's goes away as easily as mine!

Does the pain come on suddenly or just linger and never go away?  When I started having gallbladder trouble immediately after my son was born, I'd be fine one minute and in agony the next.  My pain didn't go up and down like yours is doing...but I assume gall bladder pain could be different for each of us.  Mine felt like someone was cutting me in half horizontally...and I couldn't even narrow down where the pain originated from until I accidentally touched  my right side immediately under my ribs after about the third attack.  An ultrasound would be able to 'diagnose' if that's the problem...but I don't know if they could do anything about it while you're pg.  I think (but can't swear to it) that there's someone here on the board who was having gallbladder surgery while pg because it was so bad for her...but obviously they don't like to do surgeries if they can avoid them while you're pg.

I'd suggest talking to your regular dr and ask them to send you for an u/s to check the gallbladder just to be on the safe side.  I don't know if it's the problem...but at least if you know what's causing the pain, it's a small measure of relief....and a change in diet may help at least until after the baby's here when they can consider surgery.

Hope you feel better soon.

I'd still say get checked for the gall bladder...just to be sure.  I think everyone's pain is different depending on the severity of the attack.  My sister ended up in the ER and they thought she had appendicitis.  Even at the ER they should be able to do the u/s for the gall bladder.

Unfortunately, you can't do my (not so healthy) treatment that I did when mine acted up.  I had no idea I even HAD gallbladder, let alone that it could cause me that much pain...but when the attacks would come on, I'd take two Advil every half hour (probably a 8-10 total!) before I finally got knocked out...and when I woke up, the pain would be gone.  I mentioned it to my dr at my 6 week appointment and he told me to go do the u/s for the gallbladder, that that's probably what it was...and he was right.

Another thing...I've never had kidney stones...but could it be that?  Maybe someone who's had them can tell you if the pain could be described that way?  Whatever it is...I personally don't think it's just muscles stretching.  If it were 'spasming,' maybe...but not sharp jabs...not that I'm a dr...that's just my uneducated two cents!

I had my gallbladder out in september and it went from a stabbing pain right under my right breast and radiated around my ribcage to my back at it's worst. IT would happen after I ate something fatty or spicy mostly but as it got worse it was anything and everything.

Maybe a chiropractor certified in dealing with pregnant women. I have severe back issues and my chiro has been my saving grace - she is certified and has a special table where the belly drops out - she said that i would also help with aligning the pelvis and getting your body more ready for a vaginal delivery.

ALso not sure if you can use them while preggo but those Icy Hot stick on patches work great!!!

Hope you feel better

If you are in that much pain, could you go to the ER??  Make them check you out!  I know my MIL had this issue when she was pregnant with my hubby but I can't remember what they did for her.
But go get some better answers!  I bet the ER would help you...and since you are pregnant, they would get you RIGHT in!

I had my Gallbladder taken out when I was 19 and I had attacks from it for 8 months before they knew what it was. That was the most excruciating pain I have ever felt. The first attack I had felt like I was having a heart attack. The pain was in my chest and middle back. After that everytime I would lay down to go to sleep I would have an attack and would be up throwing up all night. The majority of the time I would fall asleep at the toilet. I was taking 2 to 3 percocets when I would have the attack and they didn't help at all. I don't wish gallstones on my worst enemy. It was pure HELL....
