Nutrition and Pregnancy After Bypass

I am thinking of having bypass surgery. I just wanted to know if anyone had difficulty or challenge maintaining a healthy pregnancy. Did you have to increase vitamins, or take protein supplementation.  Did you gain a healthy amount of pregnancy weight?  How did (or are) pregnancy change what your dietary routine.   On that note, those of you who breastfed, anything extra that you needed to do? Any trouble with milk supply. Sorry so many questions. Thanks

the only thing that you will need to do is add an extra 300 calories to your diet..... thats not to hard... you will have to eat some carbs since ketosis is very bad for a developing baby brain... i gained 25 lbs and had a 6 lb baby... he was 5 weeks early... as far as vitimans.. i just took my prenatal.... :)

I am currently 31 weeks pregnant and sadly I am having ZERO problems gaining weight with the pregnancy WAY more than I thought I would for sure! I am 2 and half years out though!
I added more calories carbs and way too many sweets that are soon to be banned!
As for breastfeeding I am not worried at all about that  every pregnancy is different and I think breastfeeding can be different too!

I was one of those that got pregnant 4 montns post -op ---WAY before I was supposed to.  I still managed to gain quite a bit, add in the calories I needed to ( I think I did about 1000 a day) and had a 10.5 lb boy.
The way my nutritionist and surgeon said it was "people in 3rd world countries are still able to do it with far less!  The baby will take whatever it needs from you - which isn't much now - and you will get what's left over"  SO TRUE!

I only had to switch to a prenatal instead of my regular vitamins.  I am pregnant with twins now and I decided to add some extra iron and folic acid on my own.  My labs came back yesterday and were PERFECT!

I didn't have much milk supply but my surgeon wanted me to go back to 600 calories a day...I think that had something to do with my lack of moo.

Good luck!  We are much healthier getting pregnant after surgery than before -that's for sure!
