RANT--Sure to **** a few people off
I consider so many on here my friends. I really try not to be judgemental and I admire quite a few of you here *****ally have gone through quite a lot to have your children and be good parents. With that disclaimer out of the way here is my rant....
No drug can be considered 100% safe to use during pregnancy. NONE, not even Tylenol is 100% proven to be safe. It most likely is safe but they have never done extensive testing to know. I believe it is your choice what to take when you are pregnant but I think it is very dangerous to tell people "This is what my doctor has me on and it is safe" The proper word would be SAFER meaning it is SAFER to take A then it is to take B but NO MEDICATION is 100% safe.
When people come here asking about a drug, perhaps we can reply to them to call their doctor no matter what. I don't think giving a personal experience on how we did on a certain drug is helping. I think it is making it seem OK and what is OK for you might not be OK for everyone.
Here is an article that states what is BELIEVED to be safer with the disclaimer at the bottom that nothing is 100% safe.

If I ever say something on this board that is wrong, I would hope that someone would correct me. I have seen so much lately on this board that I have kept my mouth shut with but today I had to vomit this out. One other thing I have seen a lot is that formula is just as good as breast milk. It isn't, the formula compainies will even tell you that. Formula is a great alternative but it isn't as good.

Rant all you want. I agree, "safer" is the term. Maybe I should have chose my wording more careful. True, just because one person takes it, doesn't mean it's right for me...but I can at least ask what others experience has been. No harm in that. In fact, I would say educating myself is the best thing I could do right now.
Just as a lot of people would argue that it's not safe to have a baby after WLS period, a lot of people are going to argue that it's not safe to take antidepressants either. But we all have to weigh the risks and benefits for us in our own lives. And go from there.
Cheers,
~Katherine
Katherine it isn't just your post. I do admire your courage and reaching out for information on what is a safer alternative. If you read the article it stresses that taking certain medications must be between you and your doctor to weigh the pros and cons.
I have seen over the years people talking about Reglan on this board like it was safe. It isn't and now is proven to cause a deadly condition. Over a year ago my husband was reading over my shoulder and saw someone recommending Reglan. He was surprised because being a psychiatric nurse he has seen the side effects of it. Sure enough all the news lately has been how dangerous it can be to some people.
My whole point is that we should respond to such posts with the first line being "Talk to your doctor". Also I would like to see the word SAFER be used instead of SAFE. That is all.

Well, "safe" was in quotes for a reason, but I did change it to "safer" to clarify.
And yes, I would NEVER, NEVER do anything without my own doctor's advice. But my doctor does ask for my input, so that's why I'm going out on a limb here. Believe me, if I didn't value medical opinions, I would drive 6 hours each way to go to Stanford University to get the "best" opinion available.
