The Tub Saga Continues

So, background: Earlier in my pregnancy, I had a very bad yeast infection that stretched all the way to my rectum...not pretty...rather uncomfortable and gross. Although I've recovered, my bum still feels less-than-comfortable most of the time. OB suggested therapeutic baths to expedite the healing process. Our tub (in our 1966 bathroom that has had no updates over the years), although a vessel to hold water, is nasty...the walls are all tile which are falling...so as a TEMPORARY fix, my husband and I taped up a plastic shower liner to keep moisture away from the compromises wallboard. That was a year or more ago. If one leans against or touches the tile walls of the bath tub, they move...that is how rotted it is. To help with my healing, I went to my in-law's house to use their tub. (Ewwww!)

Well, my husband has been putting up roadbolock after roadblock in getting this tub-fixing project going. This tub is nasty, and is not meeting my MEDICAL needs. Let alone, the needs our our soon-to-be child...after outgrowing an infant tub, this kid will eventually need to be bathed in a real tub, right?...Or am I supposed to take him out back and hose him down in the lovely New England weather? It is not a matter of not being able to afford the fix....it is JUST HIM NOT WANTING TO HAVE IT DONE. WTF?

As I type, my husband is taking a bath in the nasty-ass tub to prove it can be done. Perhaps a tile (or two) will fall on him while he bathes... Read: "Frustrated wife impales husband with bath tile."

Tonight my ass is on fire....for no particular reason...I'm the queen of fiber and have not suffered any constipation with this pregnancy...but my ass is burning none the less. A bath would really help me feel better.

Surely, I can't be wrong to think this entire situation is absurd?!? This is so infuriating to me!

My neighbor's have a contractor doing work for them....maybe I can use my charm to wooooo him over while my husband's at work.

I am with you on the bathroom issue honie.  When we bought our house 3 years ago, it had a refinished bath, kitchen, new carpets, windows, roof... everything pretty much.  Well as we grew a little more comfy in our house, we started to notice the half ass work the guy did on the referb.  So the bathroom is where the most short cuts were taken.  Instead of him putting up green back board (which is mold and mildew resistant) on the shower walls before he put up the tub liner, he put up regular dryway (not resistant)  so he had caulked around the seams and bottoms.  well that didn't hold well, so the liner on the wall moves, DH has tried to do "repair" work for a temporary fix, but it never holds and I know what is behind the liner.  So we decided to get tile to redo the bathroom.  Found some I liked ... way back last year... we bought them.  So all we need is the green board, the tile mud (?) and the grout.  He has been putting it off ... I think the rest of the materials would cost $150 or less... and I could have a whole new bathroom... floor included.  Hasn't been done.  So we had company come about 2 weeks ago... what did he do??... stripped the old caulk, gorilla glued the liner (which won't stick because the drywall is moist) and then recaulked all the seams and bottoms.  It looks great again, but I know that it's just a big mess really.  So I can really feel for you and I am not even pregnant. =)

My other suggestion is to get some witch hazel pads.  That helps with burning and stuff after an episiotomy or tear during child birth.  I love those things... cooled and soothed.

Hope this helps and I hope you husband gets his ass in gear.

I like the sizt baths but you are so right...you need a real bath. I can only imagine how gross it looks by your desciption. Get him motivated or you may end up with a huge headline. :)

Get a big tub, put it in the middle of the living room during a game, and take a bath in it!  Tell him this is your only choice since the one in the bathroom puts you and the baby susceptible to an infection.  LOL!

I had to leave my DH a note on the toilet once - I never really used our bathroom when I was pregnant with Kellen and he let the toilet go MOLDY.  And we have a NEW house!  The note read: Are you trying to give Kellen and I an infection?  Please clean this before you kill us both.

It was cleaned that day...it's not an entire tub, and he thought I was being dramatic...but I got my point across.  LOL!

Good luck..

I would just call and have it done....because it's a matter of health for you and the baby. I'm so with you on that one. Ewwww---grodeee tub. Ick! If he gets mad, just put your puppy dog face on and say " Honey, you are such a good husband and good father, I just knew you didn't want such a dangerous situation in the house. I know you couldn't find the time, so I thought I'd help you out." Then, hug him and rub your pregnant belly and sigh....hehehe. I'm all about using your feminine wiles when needed.

Hugs,
Angie

I like the idea of a tub in the living room, that may get his attention.  Or you could get up in the kitchen sink!
Sometimes they are so clueless, I think you need to just have it done and deal with him later.
I used to sneak my dad into our house to do things my dh would put off, once he figured it out he has been much better about doing things.
Good luck!

Oh wow! Yeah, I would totally take the initiative on this one and call someone who can fix that for you and inform your husband when it's all done. At this point a renovation is not a luxury he can argue against, it's a necessity.
