Cysts on an ovary...

Ok, so I just spent yet another night in the ER. I've been having pretty consistent pain for weeks now and last night I had just had enough. I have chronic kidney stones that are generally not humanly passible and require me to have lithotripsy to blast them out. I just figured it was that time again. So off to the ER I go, 4 hours and one cat scan later and the verdict is in...

I DO have plenty of kidney stones but at this moment they are actually up in my kidnets and therefore NOT causing the pain at this time. What I DO have right now that IS causing the pain is that I have a cyst on my right ovary. All they would say to me was here, take these pain meds, and call your OB in the morning.

What is this? Do I have reason to be alarmed? I know there's plenty of you out there with them, should I be doing something??? We've essentially been "trying" to have a baby for a while now with nothing... perhaps this is related? I've also gained about 15lbs in less than a month, could that be related? I'll surely be asking my OB these quetions when I get into him, but I'm impatient!

I know right next to nothing re the ovarian cysts.  I remember my older sister (who's now 42) had one when she was about 18/19, and the drs told her it would go away on it's own.  I don't recall how long it took, and I don't know if it has any long term effects though...but she did go on to have two babies and didn't have trouble getting pg.  I hope this is the case with you.

Good luck...and let's pray your kidney stones don't start kicking in too.  One thing at a time!

From what I remember from having mine they go away on their own most of the time. Occassionally they need to be removed but rarely. I think that the Dr described to me that they are eggs that are released but not absorbed by the body or passed into the tubes and they form a cyst (basically a fluid filled sac) but eventually they are absorbed. I'm trying to remember back about 8 years here so forgive me if some of the details arne't correct. Good luck with the OB today!

They can be very un-comfortable. I had cysts for years. The Doctor treated mine with Oral Contraceptives and i had sonograms done every 6 months until they finally went away.  Then i did get pregnant after WLS , AND being on "the pill' also, lol

Good Luck to you at your appt.!!

Most go away on their own. You can take the pill to help them go away but they are just a pain literally! Not really anything that should be keeping anything from working. :)
