Confused about Contraception!

Hello!

I am having a bit of a dilema with contraception at the moment, and was wondering if anyone could offer me some advice? I am nearly 1 year post-op and would like to get as close to goal as possible before ttc. I have been taking the Mini-pill (progesterone only) since my bypass, but it causes me to bleed irregularly so I've come to the conclusion it isn't my best option! My doctor has recommended 4 things- the implant in my arm, an IUD coil, the Depo injection or the Combined pill (Yasmin was suggested).

I've had the injection before and it made me as moody as hell, and I don't want anything too permanent like a coil or implant as like I said we want a baby as soon as I am closer to goal. Is it safe for me to take the Combined pill alone, or are there absorption issues? I am so confused and my doctor doesn't know much about the Bypass procedure and if the pill is safe to take.

Many thanks in advance!
Vicky

Hi, I was on the pill (Seasonale) before surgery and then opted for Nuvaring afterwards (along with condoms for a time- i forget how long, my surgeon recommended 2 forms of birth control initially). I didn't want to worry about absorbtion, and it worked great for me, and I had no issues with it.

Best of luck!

I've read alot about the nuvaring, but it isn't widely available in the UK, and my doctor doesn't offer it.  I don't want to worry about absorption really, but the other options are more long term and I want to start trying for a baby once I'm as close to goal as possible.

Thanks for the advice though!

The IUD coil isn't permanent.  It can be removed and you will be able to TTC immediately.

I know the IUD coil isn't permanent, but my doctor is not keen on me having one if it is only going to be for a few months. I suppose though I haven't really got another choice, I've researched and found some articles saying the absorption of the pill is affected after RNY.

I will make another appt to see my doctor to discuss the IUD further.

Thanks for your help!
