Anyone Regret WLS?

I have gotten my insurance authorization for gastric bypass surgery. I am having diffuculty commiting to WLS, especially the bypass, mostly because its scary and permanent. I am 260lbs and do want to have a baby soon. I want to have WLS because of the health benefit of loosing all that extra weight, but I'm wondering about the day-to-day changes and adjustments you have to make. I was wondering how everyone else's experience was. If you had to do it all over again would you?

I would do it again in a heartbeat, it has changed everything about my life and I never regret a minute of it. Sometimes I get the "I wish I could eat that" moment, but then I remember what eating those things got me and I am happy I can't have it.

I do have split feelings about it, I will be totally honest. I know sooooooooooo many people that have had WLS and some regret and MANY do NOT regret. I am one of them in between. I have got to say that I would do it all over again but i have had a few issues since but many many more before the surgery. The WLS has saved my life. My apendix went after but that could have happened even without surgery. I have also had surgery since WLS for scar tissue causing me to vomit and im actually going in next week for another possible surgery for the same.
PLEASE DO NOT let what i say scare you away. You will most likley get a lot of responses on this and I want to wish you the best and know that you have found a great forum here with a LOT of great women and men with lots of support!!!

OVER ALL I GOTTA SAY I WOULD DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN!!!

I don't think it's for everyone, that's for sure.  Sometimes I wish I hadn't, but it gave me my baby Sophie and I can't complain about that.  She is my favorite blessing.

I was a month shy of 23 when I had my surgery.  I weighed 263 pounds and went with the DS.  I am now a little over 8 years post-op.   Your day to day adjustments you have in the very beginning will soon become a lifestyle change and will not feel like adjustments at all.

WLS is not all sunshine and roses.  For me, I have had many complications.  Some my fault, some just random, but even with everything I have been through, I would still do it all over again in a heartbeat.

I would do it again in a heartbeat.  If it wasn't for my WLS, I honestly don't believe I would have ever had this chance to have a child.  Especially after my husband and I had tried for 11 years and never once conceived until I had my surgery.

Not for a millisecond!!!  I was 327 pounds at my consult. This morning I was 189. Thats 138 pounds gone forever!! Without this surgery I more then likely wouldn't be pregnant. I have had a few minor "complications" if you will - I developed ulcers at about a year out and had my gall bladder out at about 1 1/2 years out. I don't regret it at all!

My only regret is not doing it sooner.

best of luck with your decision. Also, please know that if you opt for the surgery there will be a wait of 12-18 months before you should try to get pregnant.

I have a huge regret regarding my WLS.  I hugely regret that I didn't do it 20 years before I did.  Yeah...you can't eat huge amounts...but after the first 8-12 months, you will be able to eat relatively 'normal' amounts of most foods...though even three years post-WLS, I still fill up very quickly on things I'm not really supposed to eat in the first place...rice, pasta, bread, potatoes...which means my tool's still doing what it's supposed to do.

Do make sure you research it, including the various types of surgeries and the benefits and risks of each.  If you live in an area where there are support group meetings for WLS patients, and potential WLS patients...go to some of the meetings and talk in person to people who've BTDT.

Good luck in your decision.
