Big baby

Well, the weight estimate at my 36 week ultrasound this morning was 7lbs 4oz, and he still has a month to go. The "average" weight at 36 weeks is 5lbs 12oz, so even if they are overestimating by a pound, he's still a bit above the average.
So if anyone out there is wondering if having WLS automatically leads to a lower birthweight baby, well, apparently not!

They stink at those estimates..they told me my whole pregnancy that my baby was just small (but completely healthy).  Hello- in the c-section room I heard the antist. guess 8lbs 1oz..I literally said who's baby are you talking about...then I saw her...She was 8lbs 1 1/2 oz.  Not the peanut they claimed she'd be.

I am hoping for a big baby!  After having preemies I am really hoping for at least 8 and half pounds! We shall see! I have 9 weeks to grow :-)

Can't wait to see how big your little one really is!!

I'm hoping he slows down a bit! He already weighs almost as much as I did when I was born!

Wowser!

I am almost 41 weeks and my baby just measured 7lbs 4oz !!  So you do have a big baby!

Good for you - and for the baby!   It's good to see that WLS probably factors little into the baby's birthweight.  I"ve seen small babies and big babies born here.

As long as they're healthy - that's the important thing!

Yes, but did they preface that with.."The closer you are to term, the harder it is for us to actually guesstimate the weight?"  They said Caitlin was 7 lbs 10 oz, or thereabouts when I did my u/s at 38 weeks, to see if she'd flipped or if we were still breech.

She was barely 7lbs at birth.  But the tech did tell me during the u/s that it is harder to get an accurate weight the further in pregnancy the u/s is done.  And I'd heard that several times before.

Like Heather, they can be WAY wrong on that.  My OB actually decided to induce labor at 37 weeks for fear of him getting to big and increasing risk of C-section due to his size.  The ultrasounds were measuring him around 8-8.5 lbs at 37 weeks.  He came out at 6lbs 12oz.  Turns out he was right on track for being 8lbs at normal birth.  Oh well, alls well that ends well.

I am not alone, neither are you.

I also agree that they can be way off.  Four years ago, I was told my daughter was going to weigh 9 pounds, and she ended up weighing 6 pounds, 15 ounces!
