Birth Control - or Lack Thereof - Question
Natural Family Planning, if used properly with two people motivated and trained in the different methods (Creighton, Sympto-Thermal and Marquette), is 99% effective. My husband and I have used NFP successfully to space our children, and I recommend it to everyone. You learn to observe your body fertility signs every day, so you don't have to have "textbook" cycles to use it. And the biggest bonus is that it is chemical free with no side effects. Since we are currently trying to avoid conceiving, we abstain from sex for the few days around when I start showing fertility signs. It's no different than abstaining when you're sick or apart from your partner for travel purposes or when the in-laws visit. And once I've ovulated and I know the egg isn't around anymore (2-3 days after release), it's like a second honeymoon!!! Whoo-hoo! I'm convinced our marriage is better using NFP because he has to be involved and "aware" of what I'm going through. THankfully, I have the best husband in the world, too. But anyway, NFP does work, but you'll want to take a class to learn about it so you can get to know your natural body signs and learn what they mean. All that chemical birth control can cover up your natural signs, too, so if you're currently on anything chemical, it may take a few months for your body to adjust to its natural state. Good luck!
Katherine,
You may want to be careful with your condom selections. I don't know how regular a user you are of condoms or if you have a brand that you have used before with no problems... but I say this because you said your cervix is very sensitive. I don't have a sensitive cervix, but I do have issues with condoms. I have no latex allergy outside my body, but when we use regular latex condoms I have a lot of issues. I get very very irritated and develop yeast infection like symptoms. Itching, burning, raw irritation. So while the Costco pack may be economical, it may turn out to be a waste of money if you have these sensitivity issues. Perhaps, if you are not accustomed to condoms you should start with a small 3 pack and see how that goes. If they irritate you and cause problems, then you didn't waste a lot of money. You can then try polyurethene condoms. They are more expensive and a pain in the neck to use... but they may not cause the same sensitivity problems.
Hope this helps. Good luck!
