day 21 progesterone question

Hi,
I was hoping to be pg this month and not even have to ask about this..., but had a temp drop this morning and it seems the red started, so i guess that's that...

I saw a new ob/gyn last week- didnt even go there to discuss ttc. But we did talk about it, and she suggested a Day 21 progesterone test.

If that's supposed to be helpful determining if someone has ovulated, how will it help someone like me who doesn't O until sometimes Day 23 (as was this case this cycle) ?

Any information is appreciated, thank you!

Hey... a cd 21 progesterone test is for those that o on cd14. Ideally it is a 7dpo progesterone test....so if you o on cd 23 it would be on cd 30. That is how they did it for me. Sorry if af is showing! Shari

Well that's just it, at that point I thought I had O'd on CD 21 and thats what I told her. And when she said to do the blood draw on CD21, I asked her if she meant whether or not I had gotten a positive on the OPK, and she said it didnt matter... So that's why I was confused... She seemed like a reasonable and knowledgeable ob/gyn, but if I really went and had it drawn at CD21 and I only O'd like CD17, 21 or 23, the results would be totally skewed, right?

I wonder if I should even bother with this test...

Do it for her...but tell her that it will probably be skewed especially if you o after the test date. I have heard of other ob's doing this. I honestly think you should be seeing an RE at this point though. I still had nurses and doctors argue with me about my due date, when I charted and knew I ovulated on cd23. They kept insisiting that I ovulated on cd 14, and I told them not all women ovulate on cd14. You would think working in an ob office they would know this stuff, but you would be surprised at how many don't get it. Even my ultrasound tech kept saying my due date wrong. I kept telling her that my due date was 8 days different than the little chart she had...she kept saying, well according to your last menstral....and I kept saying, my due date is going off of my o date. Sure enough she did the scan and my due date by o was right on. I dunno, I say appease her. There are alot of blood tests they can run and maybe she just wants to confirm her own worries or something. Frustrating I know. Better luck this cycle. Shari
