Newbie | TTC after WLS Questions

Hi, everyone. I am a newbie to this side of the board. I have a few questions about fertility treatments after WLS.

Did you need to take fertility meds after WLS?

If so, did you need an increased dose because of the malabsorption?

What fertility meds did you take and where you successful with them?

TIA for any information.

Welcome!  Some of the gals here needed to use fertility drugs but most of us didn't.  I was infertile for 10+ years before WLS - then 4 months later I got pregnant by surprise.  WHOOPS!  It happened VERY easily - forgot BC one time!  Now, unplanned, pregnant with TWINS.  LOL!

We even adopted our first son because I couldn't get pregnant even with fertility drugs before WLS.  Now, I'm ready to close down this factory!  LOL!

Have you been trying long or are you just starting?

Good luck!!

HEY, welcome!!!!! I just noticed we started off at the same weight, and you had your surgery almost 2 weeks after I did!

-I have done 3 rounds of clomid. The first 2 rounds I ovulated, the 3rd round was unsuccessful, not sure if it'sbecause I was on anti-biotics a few days after I finished clomid or what.  Not sure what is going to go on now, I might do 1 more round at an increased dose (only because I didn't ovulate last round****il I can get in to see an RE. (but I do have polycystic ovarian syndrome so that is my problem for having a hard time conceiving i think)
-I never even thought about the malabsorption, that is a really really really good question, I hope someone has knowlege on this because I would like to know too!!!!!

Hello,

I never used infertility meds. I was 8 months out from surgery and down 103 pounds when i became pregnant............i was on oral Birth Control for 9 years when this little miracle baby girl was conceived.  The rapid weight loss played a huge part in my pregnancy with my hormones and malabsorption.

There are many ladies here that i am sure can answers your questions and lead you the right direction.

Good Luck to you!!

Hey Britlee,

I can't really help with any of your questions (sorry!)  -  I had RNY 15 mo.'s ago and we are TTC # 2. I've only had my IUD out 2 weeks so I don't know if we'll have to resort to using fertility drugs ever or not.
I just really wanted to say "HEY" from one Vol to another!

I'm originally from East Tennessee (Kingsport) but living in Ga. now .. we'll be in Rogersville at the end of the month. Can't wait!

Good luck with everything!

My hubby and I tried for about 4 years prior to my WLS, with no luck at all.  I even tried Clomid, but that was all I ever tried.  13 months post-op I got the 'green light' to try and I was preggo 2 months later.  I now have a 2 year old son and a 2 month old daughter, and we are done! :o)

I know there are alot of women on this board that even after WLS, they still struggle.  I wish this surgery was a cure-all for all infertility issues.  I hope you find some answers to your questions and wish you luck in getting preggo!

Thank you ladies for all your replies.

I, too, have PCOS. I just hope my fertility issues have been resolved since the weight loss. I guess it is me being paranoid, but I honestly think I will need fertility meds. I hope I don't but the mind plays evil tricks on you while you are TTC.

Again, thank you.

I tried for 4 years prior to my DS. My RE told me if I did not lose a large amount of weight I would not get pregnant. Now that I am 15 months post op and 130 lbs lighter, I am starting back down the TTC journey again.
