Question from a newbie...

Ok, I am almost 5 weeks out from my RNY.  The main reason I had the surgery was so I can have more children.  I was suffering from "secondary infertility".

I am not going to consider trying before I am 12 months out but I have what might be a ridiculous concern.

Of course with me being so new to all this and new to food with my pouch I am worried about being pregnant after RNY.  What if I have a craving for something and I can't eat it?  I When I was pregnant with my first child I suffered morning sickness my entire pregnancy and there wasn't much I could tolerate.  I know that each pregnancy is different but I don't want to be miserable in pregnancy (or more miserable!).

For the RNYers, what has your experience with eating been like with your pregnancy?

Thanks!

Beth S.

BEth - I am just a first time Mommy to be - at 10 weeks preggo now I did have morning sickness, still having it somewhat mostly in the evenings but when I crave something I have it - if it is something sweet I figure out something that is sugar free that will do the trick - if you need help with recipes let me know.

GOod luck!

I am happy you know to wait before you try :) thats very important because of the food restrictions. When first out its like we cant eat much of anything. It gets a little better though. I eat a few sweet things but usually thats in the morning to get my blood sugar up a little so I dont feel so sick. I have had morning sickness and its not great. I keep trying protein shakes but they still make me sick right now. Used to be ok with them. I have to eat every 2-3 hours now because I have lost 17 pounds so far in this pregnancy. With both my other pregnancies I gained between 60 and 70 pounds. Not cool. So now I feel sick if I stand too long and the hot and cold changes are kind of funny. I get hot then 10 minutes later I feel like I am freezing. Now dont get me wrong none of this is complaining cause I am very happy as this is my last baby and most likely will have to get a hysterectomy after this one. I love every second of it right now. Just telling you some of the basics for me right now. I hope your surgery results are awesome. I know I am so happy I did this for myself and my family. Good luck on your weight loss!

One thing is that during pregnancy, the body releases a hormone called relaxin and I think it causes the pouch to change temporarily during pregnancy.  I dumped a lot less frequently and was able to eat anything.  Although, to be fair, there really wasn't anything before pregnancy that I couldn't eat anyway.  But others have said their ability to tolerate foods changed a lot during pregnancy too.

It has not been fun for me! I have no patience for chewing. If I have to chew something like crazy like hamburger or something it completely grosses me out! I am to the point where I wish I just didn't have to eat period. It's pretty frustrating! All the things I want I cannot eat so I find myself stuck w/ no appetite. I have lost like 35-40 lbs in the 3 months I have been pregnant. I try to eat as much as I can tolerate. I can really throw down chips and dry cereal and those kinds of things but milk products and meat are difficult! They don't make me sick I just realllly don't want to eat them!
