Baby Bug
I know I should be on some sort of birth control. I hate the hormonal ones cause they make me all freaky and way hormonal and I am scared on a non hormonal IUD because a friend had problems with hers and had to have surgery to remove it causing scaring and fertility problems. My husband refuses to wear condoms so basicially we just don't do it from the time I have my period until the 18th day of my cycle.
I would wait too. I have the band and lost most of my weight in the beginning, when I was committed and on a roll. You went through all the trouble of getting the band, go ahead and wait the full year and then you will have an easier time during your pregnancy.
I had the Mirena IUD because I can't take any other type of birth control, it was great. I plan on getting another one when I can after I have this baby.
Work your tool that you have, it is hard to get back on track once you fall off and you don't want to jump off on purpose, just my opinion though.

i would say talk to your doctor about how you feel. You have plenty of time to wait. Why go through the surgery and then mess it all up in the end? Its not best for you or baby. Stop looking at things that make you want a baby. Be happy with the child you have for now and after the year then get approval from your doctor. I cant believe a doctor would do the surgery knowing you are not on birth control. Right now is not the time to think about your want and needs its time to be healthy. There are plenty of birth control options available and just because 1 friend had issues menas nothing will happen to you. Seems you know you should wait though but are looking for a way out of that. Be fair to the unborn baby. When its time your surgeon will give you the ok and then its best for you and baby. Thats why you had the surgery to be healthy for your family so give it time to work and dont ruin it for your family already. You have plenty of time!! Be happy with the weight loss and how exciting all of your new life will be and focus on that right now. You can do that!! Its always best to wait till your surgeon gives you the ok. You dont want something to happen with the baby and then feel you could have done something. Get healthy and be proud you made a great choice to get better for your family!!

Reason's to wait:
1.) If you get pregnant now, you may never lose your excess weight. Many of us stop losing for YEARS and now have to diet and exercise to get the weight off. Take advantage of this easier losing time.
2.) The smaller you are pregnant the cuter you will be!
3.) You and your baby will be healthier if you wait 8 more months.
This is a time to enjoy losing weight and getting healthy. It is human nature to want something and want it now but it really is better for you and your child to wait longer. Good luck getting the rest of your weight off, you have done a great job so far!

Take it from me...I got pregnant by surprise at 4.5 months post op and haven't lost a pound since. I gained 50 pounds with my pregnancy even being so early out and then lost 42 within 2 weeks. HOWEVER, never lost another pound. I kept those last 8 and 2 more of their friends. I really wish I had lost all my weight first. Being early out and having to add snacks and such, it's a hard habit to break!
Good luck, it sounds like you know what the right thing is to do. I stopped using birth control for the same reasons you did. We went to condoms and forgot one ONCE...and we were on fertility drugs and tried getting pregnant for 8 years before my surgery. We even adopted our first. Then, WHAMMO! Pregnant in an instant! And here I am, knowing we were done, and pregnant with TWINS! LOL!

Hello Tami,
I just found out that I am 9 weeks pregnant and just had the band placed in February. I was not trying, switched birth controls and wham PREGNANT. I just spoke with my surgeon an he see's this happen all of the time, we are much more fertile with less weight on us. I was planning on having another baby, my son will be six in October, just not this soon after the band. I would say watch your birth control and be really carefull, I thought I was, but I guess it is my time :) Good Luck to you, we are really excited for another on the way!
