I just want to scream..........
The name war has started!! DF has always wanted to name a boy Peter after him, Ok that was fine. Well were having 2 girls so thats out. What does he do he finds the "his name" only in the girls form.....it's Petra. I HATE it, I can't STAND it, but he LOVES it and "thats the name". He thinks it will start to grow on me with time but I don't think so. He says I should name one and he should name the other what ever we want. But I feel that they are both of are kids and we should like both of there names. And that we should agree on them together as there parents.
~*Sarah*~ Proud mommy to Anthony (4) and Twin girls born on 10/5/09 @ 34weeks.....Paytra Josephine(5.1oz) and Piper Elizabeth(3.6ozs).
Don't you just love how stubborn men can be? LOL
However, I must say that I like the name Petra. I have a friend from school whose name is Petra. I also know a Petria, not bad either. Good luck :-)

My husband is a name bully too. Luckily it is the mother that gets to fill out the name box. How about using it as a middle name?
I almost left my husband over Riley's name. He wanted to name his middle name something that caused me pain and was oblivious even though I told him no less then 5 times absolutely not. We were at his parent's house and his mom asked what we were naming the baby and he blurted out the name and I almost fainted. I saw spots, got dizzy and I believed threatened to kill him. Even after Riley was born he told someone that the forbidden name was Riley's middle name. Just a little FYI, Riley's middle name is my husband's first name so it isn't like he forgot.
Men are really really stupid when it comes to women and feelings. Cry or smack him in the head when he disagrees with you.

Ahhh, hahaha! Your response just made me laugh so hard! My husband and I are going through this a little bit right now, and I pretty much threw a crying fit and told him that after he had someone punching HIS cervix and had bubble toes in HIS ribs for enless sleepless nights, he could hame it whatever he wanted. Til then, it's Mama's Rule! haha
I lost the battle of names with this last pregnancy. I REALLY wanted Elijah. But in his family.....ALL MALES have "J" names. And he wasn't going to be the one to break the tradition. LOL. So I only studied the "J" section of the baby name book! LOL......
I don't know what to tell you about the "battle". Hopefully you can come to an agreement of some sort! I actually work with a Petra and think it is so unique, and she fits her name so perfectly. She's adorable and bubbly and patients always compliment her on her name.
I am not helping your cause, am I??? LOL.
But as Jennifer stated, YOU are the one filling out the forms after birth, so "technically" you can name her whatever you want! LOL

When life hands you lemons, ask for tequila & salt and give me a call!
My SO and I decided that if we were having a boy - he would name him, and if we were having a girl - I would name her. However there was the condition that the other couldn't absolutely hate the name. SO had mentioned some names that I wasn't fond of (Isiah, George, etc.) and I mentioned names that he wasn't fond of (Piper, Paige, etc.) So those names were automatically ruled out.
I'm not sure how I feel about Petra either. But as stated before, you are the one that fills out the name box (although I'm sure if you told him one of the twins could be Petra and then turned around and named her something else, that would cause a whole other world of problems.) I hope you can come to an agreement soon.
You could always tell him you'll give it a few weeks to see if it grows on you - and then of coarse it won't and you can tell him that.

I love it! I love the name Piper - he was totally against it, using his perverted mind that everyone would call her a "pipe smoker" or something along those lines! But I think it's the cutest name. He was against Paige as a first name but was okay with as a middle name - so we ultimately decided on Audrina Paige - then Drew spread his legs and crushed that!
