Blood clotting disorder

Found out today I have a blood clotting disorder called factor V leiden heterozygous. Kind of strange but this could be a cause for my 5 miscarriages. Go back next week to talk about treatment options and all.

Wow, good luck!  I don't know what it all means but hopefully they can get it controlled so this baby comes out healthy and happy.

Good luck...

Me too! I am thinking positive. I have had 2 kids so it can happen. Apparantly my body makes blood clots so usually they can help this out with blood thinners but not much of an option right now. They just have to watch the baby more I guess. Cant assume charlie horses are charlie horses now. I am relieved I guess though that all of my losses have some sort of explanation. That helps a lot. I am still feeling great so thats all that matters right now. :)

Good luck with the Dr next week - I hope that there are some options they can give you now and after the baby arrives. On the upside - maybe you'll get more ultrasounds since they will probably we watching you closely!

Thanks!! I hope so too but since we are military they kind of hold on to those ultrasounds. Going to see if he will send me to a specialist. Not happy with his approach for me to go home and research then come back in a week. Crazy doc!!

I just saw something last night about this same blood clotting disorder. I think it was the same. It was on that show called "Deliver Me" if I remember correctly. The woman had one child and then kept having miscarriages because of the undetected blood clotting disorder. During this recent pregnancy they had her giving herself daily lovenex (not sure of spelling) injections to thin her blood. Then they planned to induce her so they had her stop taking the meds a day before delivery. She had a safe delivery and the baby was fine!

Thank you for this story. It does help. I know I have my 15 and 10 year old and had issues with both but no clue why. Happy to have some info though. I am not sure about the blood thinners though. I did see also that it can cause placenta abruption also. That part scares me. Its ok though cause I just want to take it day by day and think positive. I have 2 beautiful boys so I know it can work out.

I also have Factor V Leiden Heterozygenous.  In addition to that, I have MTHFR and border line Protein S levels, and depending on which dr you ask, low Protein C levels.  They're all blood clotting disorders...and they think that one or all of them could be the cause of my three mc's.  When/if I get pg again, the plan is that I'll start taking daily lovenox injections from the day I get a positive pg test.  Many drs will tell you that the chances of it causing a mc are low because it's not the **** ygenous (the full mutation...hetero is half the mutation)...but I figure w/a history of mc's....I'd rather take the injections in the off chance that it might actually help...because it certainly can't hurt.  I'm also currently on two baby aspirin a day, and 5000 mg of folic acid, and will continue them when/if I get pg, even w/the lovenox.  I had a perfectly healthy pg and son 14 years ago w/no problems...didn't try to get pg again until a year and a half ago...got pg 3x in 11 months...and had 3 mc....which is when they found out I'm a (not so teenage) mutant (ninja turtle).

Since you're currently pg...w/a history of mc's...I'd tell you to get in and have them get you on some sort of blood thinners just in case that is the problem.

Good luck.

I was going to say thats great to hear but that does not sound right. Not happy you have it either but happy to not be alone. I am afraid of the blood thinners. My mother has had many blood clots this year and I thought nothing of it but now I guess it makes sense. My uncle, aunt and cousin all have it pretty bad also. I am hoping things go great this time. I am kind of upset with the doctors approach on go look it up and come back next week. What kind of mess is that? I think I will be switching doctors after this next appointment. Thank you for sharing this with me though it really makes me feel not so much like a freaky mutant. :) Like your comparison on tennage mutant!!

Trust me...I had the blood work done on my way to a conference in the U.S....stopped in Oregon, had the blood work done & went to the conference in West Virginia.  I called to get the results and they told me I had the Factor V...I was freaked and asking 'I have WHAT?' had them spell it out and ran down to the hotel internet computer to find out what the heck it was.  It wasn't until 6 months later in Singapore that the MTHFR and Protein S were discovered...and the Protein C in Indonesia.  I decided it'd be best to quit getting blood work done since every time they did it they found something else the matter w/me.  At the rate they've been diagnosing problems, it's a miracle that I lived to be the ripe old age of 41!!

When I went to Singapore for some tests that couldn't be done here in Indonesia, the dr there sent me to a hematologist dr.  The hematologist said that when/if I get pg again, the ob/gyn should be in constant consultation w/the hematologist to work on the blood thinning issues.  If possible, maybe you should ask for a referral to a hematologist too so you can talk to the 'expert' on blood issues and at least get all your answers re side affects for the thinners.
