Will I still loose after I have the baby?

So my dr said that next month we can start trying.  But does this mean that I am done with my weight loss?  After I have a baby, will I still be able to benefit from the surgery and continue loosing?  I have lost a total of 120 but still was hoping to loose another 50 lbs.  It is coming off much slower now, and I am 34 and not getting any younger.  Could you share your experiences like this?  Thanks.

I don't know but I certainly hope so!

I've heard that WLS patients don't gain too much weight during pregnancy and then loose it quickly after and so far I've been losing instead of gaining so seems to be true, but I'm so early into this pregnancy that I can't really say I won't gain much ya know? I guess we'll see what happens. I'm looking forward to the responses you get as well.

I got pregnant 8 months post op. The lowest I got was at my 6 week check up 184 down from 356. I gained after that all the way up to 240. I am currently dieting and exercising my way back down and at 197. Most of the women that I know IRL that had WLS and got pregnant the first year or 18 months are struggling to lose. Take advantage of your surgery as long as you can. You have plenty of time, what is another 6 months?

Ditto.

I'm almost back to the "pre-Cheri" binge weight I gained when I stopped giving a damn.  203 was as low as I had gotten and I'm at 206.5...

I'm hoping to be around 190 by August..

Well.. I am 3 years post-op.... My 3rd child is my 1st post-op and she is 3 months old... I gained a total of 40 pounds in my pregnancy... to date I have lost 22 lbs of it... I am struggling with the last 18 lbs to get back down to my comfortable weight of 165...  It is not coming off as easily or as quickly as pre- baby... I do though still have my pouch restriction and actually it is a little "tighter" right now than pre-baby...  I am doing everything "right'  IE:  counting calories, protein first, drinking my water, exersizing etc... it is just coming off at a "normal" pace... 1-2 lbs per week now...   of course not fast enough for me and I did have a 3 week period when i didn't lose anything...   I am not breastfeeding by the way..   so that is my experience... of course during my pregnancy I did not exersize at all so my gain could have had less of a gain but i was too tired... now i am paying for it...  but in the end she is definately worth it...   good luck what ever your decision...

In my own personal experience I gained 70 pounds with my first. So its not necessarily true that RNY dont gain that much. I know what caused it and I remedied it after I had her and lost it all in 6 months. I ate like a freaking pig and ate 5 helpings. AS long as you eat healthy and not over eat you'll be fine, because even overeating healthy you can still gain too much. I am 32 weeks now and gained 45 pounds so I am doing a little better this time but not as good as I could. I plan to work on loosing 70 pounds in 6 months after I have her.

Congrats on the 120 pound weight loss!!!

I was 9 months out of surgery and down 103 pounds when we found out about our "Little Miracle"
My first child 9 years ago i gained almost 60 pounds. With this pregnancy i have gained 16 pounds total so far and i will be 32 weeks this week. I try to eat the same as far as lots of protein, water, No carbonation and very limited sweets / sugar......but my weakness is carbs...........boy can i down bread, fries, onion rings, popcorn,... etc....since i have been pregnant this time around.

From what i have seen and heard from most previous WLS patients the tool is still there....you just have to work it!

All I can sy is I hope so. We are having a "surprise" blessing. I plan to eat what I need to to get a healthy baby, but you can be sure that I will be working my tool once this baby is here.

I was 230 lbs. the day I had RNY.  I was 5 months post-op and 144 lbs. when I got pregnant.  I gained 16 pounds.  I lost it plus 15 more pounds about 4 weeks after giving birth.  At that point I was 129 lbs.  Got pregnant again when the baby was 5 months old.  I'm now 14 weeks and have gaind 7 lbs so far.

So for me...yes the weight came off.  I know it's different for everyone.  I stay 100% away from carbonated drinks, no execption.  I eat whatever else I want with in moderation and small bites.

Good luck!

Ash :)

For me, I did not give my surgery enough time to work for me. I got pregnant 4 months after RNY. I still have 120 pounds to lose and my little girl is almost 2. I struggle everyday with losing more weight. Lose as much weight as you can before getting pregnant. I love my Annalisa. She is a joy and I would never trade her but I do wish I could have waited until now to get pregnant with her. Maybe then, I would be at goal weight. Did that make sense? I am kinda tired and not making much sense...LOL. Good luck to ya!

Hugs,
Danielle
