Final Cheri Update (x-post)

I just wanted to update everyone about the final outcome of the Cheri "scandal."  I just got off the phone with the detective in Iowa.  Cheri plead guilty and received a 20 year sentence to be served concurrently with the 20 year sentence she is currently serving for prior crimes (what her outstanding warrants were for).

He also said that the judge (I think he said the judge) determined that since the remainder of the paypal account along with Cheri's personal monies (of which she had NONE) is not enough to pay restitution in the case, that the paypal monies can be given to charity.  There is $995.  I let the detective know that it would be going to the Susan G. Komen fund. 

I know this burned us, but there are a few positives to come from this.  We helped get an evil person who preys on the kindness of others off the street for a long time.  The money that is left will be going to a reputable charity and will do good there.  And lastly, it made all of us a little more alert to the ways of these types of people.  A truly good learning experience (albeit expensive for some).

And as a footnote, they could find no evidence to charge Matt.  They aren't convinced he wasn't involved, but they had to have evidence.  They didn't find any after going through their apartment and all of their computers.  So, Matt has custody of Grace and life has gone on.

Thanks everyone for patience and support during all of this.  May this post close a chapter on the OH boards that forever changed us.

Thanks Ann for the update. I was thinking the other day that all of the new people on this board will never know the whole Cheri saga.

In a sick way, even if Matt was involved I am glad they are not charging him. That way Grace has a chance with one normal parent. If he was involved I hope it was a fluke and the influance of the long time criminal that Cheri was.

I feel sorry for Cheri. She was so smart, yet so stupid at the same time.

Wow! I haven't thought of her in a long time! I'm glad she was convicted! I hope this brings some peace to all involved.

Thanks for seeing this through on our behalf. The 40-year sentence (total) speaks volumes about how professional a con artist she was/is. Thanks too for finding a way to put a positive spin on the whole thing. I feel sorry for Grace, but maybe this will give her a chance at a "normal" life while she is still too young to remember otherwise.
