IUI ovulation question
I went last night for a scan for preparation for IUI this weekend. He said one follicle is measuring 16+ x 17+, which is a good size. The uterine lining is measuring 9+, which is OK. This time, though, he said that there are two other follicles (he didn't mention them Monday), and he couldn't get 'behind' the other follicle to get good measurements on them.
He said that looking at them, it looks like I'll ovulate on Sunday.
I went in this afternoon for the trigger shot, and we go in Saturday morning the IUI. I come back on Monday morning for another scan and he'll confirm if I've ovulated or not, and if not, then we'll do another IUI. Normally he'd do it two days back to back, but because his office is not open on Sunday, I can't do it back to back...and He wanted to give another day's 'growing' time to the follicles and not do it Friday.
I've tried looking on line and can't find an answer to my question re ovulation -
If there are multiple follicles and they give you the trigger shot, will you ovulate all of them at the same time? or would the larger one ovulate, then a day later the others ovulate?
What's the minimum size for a follicle to stand a chance of being viable?
Any input on what to expect tomorrow?
Thanks!

I've been told that you will ovulate all of them but I am not sure if its all at one time. I have a follicle scan myself today and an appt with the doctor so I will ask those questions because I would like to know myself. What is IUI? I've been taking Femara the last 2 month. Everything seems to be working well but not pregnancy yet! I hope everything goes well for you.
IUI is intrauterine insemination...aka artificial insemination. Your SO goes into the little room, does his thing into a cup...they 'wash' it by spinning it to remove the semen from the sperm...the strong swimmers go up or down (can't remember which), and those are the ones they 'inject' into your uterus. My dr told me that by them injecting them, bypassing the cervix, etc...even though it's only a few inches for us...it's about 500 kilometers for the sperm and sort of puts them at the finish line, hopefully increasing the chances of getting pg since they are there and waiting for the egg to come through.
Good luck on your Femera month. If this month doesn't work...I may ask him to switch me to Femera (I'm on my 2nd month of Clomid) if it's available in Indoneisa.

Oh Okay! How long did you try before your dr recommended the IUI or was that your request? I take it that is something insurance companies don't pay for. If not, about how much does that cost? I took Clomid the first month and had 3 mature follicles and got the shot. However, my uterine lining wasn't as thick as they wanted. So last month I took 5 mg of Femara and the lining was thicker. I had 6 follicles so they wouldn't give me the shot. This month she cut my Femara dosage in half so we will see today how I did. My appt. is this afternoon. Wish me Luck! I have posted on here a couple of times and I am really impressed with all of the ladies on here, what a great support system!

Sorry I'm so slow answering you.
Due to my age (41) & the fact I don't live in the U.S., my dr's pretty willing to work w/me re IUI or whatever. My last mc was in December 2008 (6 months ago)...and I have been trying since then. I started taking estrogen in February because I also have a thin uterine lining - not caused by drugs, probably 'old age,' - and did Clomid in April and May (May/June - the IUI month). I don't know exactly how much it costs in the U.S. since I don't live there - but some of the women have paid $500-$2000 for it. The $2000 I believe was because she was on injection hormones with the clomid. If this month doesn't work, I may ask to switch to Femara too (if it's available in Indonesia), because the clomid can cause the thining of the uterine lining...and since I already have a problem with that, there's no point in making it worse. It also reduces (ie for me...eliminates) the EWCM...which is a necessity in getting pg naturally.
I hope you get your BFP soon...Good luck!

I think the short answer is that the trigger shot will cause allthe follicles to ovulate, general speaking. (Hence the odds of multiples are higher when undergoing IUI.)
The follicle size that is considered ideal is around 20mm, I believe....and follicles a little bigger or smaller can work out just fine as well.
Wishing you lots of baby dust. My fingers and toes are crossed for you.

Holly the 16 and the 17 will be closer to maturity by the time you trigger so they will ovulate. You can have other follicles but depending on their size, they might not actually ovulate because they are not mature. They may just dissolve once you ovulate (not actually burst out of ovaries). My doctor has to have one that is at least a 16 or higher before he will trigger.
For example, at my last IUI that I got pregnant, when I went in for my last ultrasound before IUI, I had six follicles he wouldn't let me go to where I would have all six mature. Three were close to maturity and the other three were small (like 5, 9, 10). The other three were 16.5, 18, 17.
Good luck! I hope this is your cycle.
