10 wks pg and maybe sugar issues again...HELP

My sugar levels have been great since surgery.  I was type 2 before and on met and byette.  With my pre-op pg I ended up on 200 units of insulin a day, it was horrible.    This morning my fasting was 100, a little high, and the last few days it has been a little high after meals.

Has anyone experienced sugar problems post-op and pregnant

I would say continue to keep your eye on it, apparently you have been already...and maybe ask if they can pull you an A1C so you know what your average has been.  I would also try to continue to have low impact carbs...that way if you are boardline, you can avoid it (insulin / medical interventions) as long as possible.  But really once the placenta takes over, it tends to change the way your insulin is processed. (creates more insulin resistance)  I was a type 2 prior to WLS..and my pregnancy with my daughter (after WLS) was perfect, no issues.  But I do monitor my bodys signals, and break out the meter when the Dr suggests..and if I feel it's needed.  Sending positive vibes, that all will be well.

I was type 2 pre op...it went away with weight loss. I ended up getting gestational at 32 weeks with my last pg and put on insulin and had a 9 1/2 pound daughter. This time I was scared so I started right away monitoring my sugars and asked to be put on insulin right away. Don't be too hard on yourself though. I was told that even if we are super careful and eat right and exercise, that with gd it has alot to do with the pregnancy hormones. The most important thing is to have a healthy atmosphere for that baby to grow in. Try with diet and exercise, but then add insulin if you have to. Good luck! Shari

I was just wondering what did you do if your sugars dropped to low while on insulin when you had GD... my sugar lvls were perfect before I was pregnant and they are still normal but high... and we aren't sure what is going to happen... tomorrow is another blood test to see... I eat 0 sugar so not sure what to do...

I'm having the same exact issue at 14 weeks.  I'm waking up to BS between 92-102.  I don't like the 102!  I noticed if I ate a peanut butter and sf jelly sandwich before bed, it was 92 when I woke.  If I ate protein, it was high!  Go figure...

I did run into that this time around as they were adjusting my insulin levels. They wanted me to drink milk, but it made me dump to drink milk too fast. Apple juice is what worked best for me and the fastest. I would just say that have them start out super super low and work up on the dose, not the other way around. They try to insist that it has to do with your body weight and history...some formula for how much to start out at. But, insist that with your wls that just isn't an option. start low and work up. Also, for some reason the diabetic sugar tabs don't make me dump, which is wierd. Maybe because they are fast acting and might enter the bloodstream faster and not our pouches so much?? not sure. Anyway, good luck. It is tough, but it is better to work out the 'little high' now than have that 10+ pound baby. Try adding a few 10-15 minute brisk walks a day and you know the diabetic diet already. Just be sure to eat the good carbs and balance your meals because ketosis it bad for baby. Shari
