Hello everyone I am new to this Pregnancy forum and I am one year out of my surgery and 6 weeks 4 days pregnant, I am just curious to know if anyone else is pregnant that has had the duodenal switch and pregnant or had a baby after the surgery, What supplements did you take and how much of them? What kind of doctor did you see a regular OB or a Perinatal doctor? I am excited and scared at the same time this is my 3rd child but this one will be my first after the surgery, so things are diffrent.....can't wait to hear your comments. thanks.

I have almost 9 month old twins and I am pregnant again.   I take a prenatal and calcium (probably not enough).   I also have my levels checked more than the average pregnant woman (iron levels that is) because I am anemic and have needed some iron infusions.

Initially I saw a RE because all of my children were conceived with IVF, but I see a regular OB now.

With the twins I was supposed to eat 8 small meals a day, but that never happened.   This time around I'm sure I will eat just like I normally do, but add in another snack or two. That is unless my OB tells me different.

Oh and I am 8 years post-op.

Happy and healthy 9 months to you.

Thank you so much for your reply, I feel much better a relief, I am just worried that the baby won't get enough nutrients, but I am taking all my vitamins and iron and calcium and folic acid, B12 all those good stuff. Thanks

Congrats! There have been a few posts this week about the ds and vitamin absorption. Maybe you could check out a few pages. Generally we are not considered high risk just because of wls, but you should monitor your vitamin levels very closely. Baby will take what it needs, but you definitely don't want to suffer. This is a great forum for support, so stick around! Shari

Congrats !!!!!!!!!!   I love to see more and more DSers having babies!  (Just so I have someone to share those DS-type issues with!)

I am due any day now.....   I am going to paste a thread of posts from a week ago that 3 of us DSers discussed our vitamins.  You'll notice I take a lot.....  but I took way more before baby. It's the way my body works.

My advice:  gets your blood drawn on a regular basis (by your surgeon if possible) to watch for trends.
