Losing weight after baby

Hi Ladies, for those that have had their babies post-op I was wondering how was your weight loss?  Did you lose quickly, slowly? Can you go back to the basics, using protein shakes etc when breast feeding.  I have gained 41lbs and I want to rid all of this baby weight as soon as little one comes.  I want to breastfeed but I am curious on how the protein shakes will affect baby.

Thanks for any advice given.  I am thinking of going back to my nutritionist after baby is born.

I can't speak for the BF part, but I've lost about 35 lbs in the month since Everett was born. It came off relatively easy but I'm at a standstill now probably because I'm not eating enough calories (strange as that sounds). I'm trying to stick to basics but tend to live on Mighty protein shakes for simplicity right now.

You're doing great! Feeling good these days? Is everything all set for baby's arrival?

Hugs,

Jo

Hi Jo, thanks for the feedback.  How is Mr. Everett doing?  I want to jump right back on track and get back to my pre-preg weight.  With the exception of swollen feet and ankles I really feel good.  I am almost all set for baby Madisyn's arrival.  Just some last minute things to do.

Take care.

Fran

I gained a total of 22 lbs (at the highest) and by the time I checked into the hospital I had begun losing already.  4 wks after the baby came I had lost all my weight.  You may be surprised!  I will say that I am having to work very hard now to maintain my weight!  I have constantly monitoring what I eat and having to exercise now.  Things definitely seemed to change a bit once the baby came!

Hi Shae0420, thanks for your reply.  That's great you lost all of your baby weight.  It is a struggle everyday to maintain our weight loss.  I was wondering how the body reacts post wls after baby.

I am hoping to lose all 41lbs gained, since I am almost 5 yrs post op it will be a definite struggle.  I really appreciate your insight on this.

Take care,
Fran

Hello Fran,
It has been a while since I have been on the boards. Congratulations on your pregnancy. I have the lap band. I had a complete unfill when I found out I was pregnant, so I could eat anything and everything. I gained ... 70 pounds with my son. I still cant believe I gained that much. He is now 3.5 months old and I have lost 71 pounds. I got filled one week after delivery which definitely made all the difference to have restriction again. I am not breast feeding so I am not sure about the protein shakes. I do lots of protein bars. I have made sure to fit in exercise, vitamins, 64 oz of water, and 3 healthy meals a day. Best wishes to you.
