Delayed Vaccination / What do they give newborns?

Hi All,

I am printing the delayed vaccination schedule that was posted a couple of months ago to keep with me.

But my questions are:

1.  What vaccinations / shots do they give newborns  right away or in the first couple of days?

2.  In a normal vaccination schedule when do they start giving shots?

3.  Is there a place I can look up doctors who are open to alternate vaccination schedules?   I am afraid the pediatrician group I chose won't go along with my wishes.

Thanks in advance!

Cindy

they give the hep b at birth.

I've not refused this one so I don't know the insides of how that works out.

then generally shots are at 1 month, 2/4, 6, 12, 18 etc.

you can refuse shots with any ped. he has no choice but to do what you say.  the only ones I've delayed with my daughter are chicken pox and the MMR.  I let my son get them all but I hadn't read about how they do so many at once.

I wasn't uncomfortable with the vaxs themeselves but the number at each time.

I have been a nurse in pediatric offices for several several years. So I have person experience with this situation...

First off... the laws of vaccinations are different in each state. So look up your state.

The only vaccine they give within the first couple days is Hep. B.

The normal vaccination schedule for Florida is... 2mo,4mo,6mo,12mo,15mo.

You are entitled to "delay" vaccinations but if you are wanting to not get them at all... then that needs to be looked up by your state. There are specific reasons each state says "why" you dont want your child to get any shots.  You can get an "exempt" form for your child so he/she can still be enrolled in school. The vaccinations are required to attend school.

Hope this helps... :-)

Libby, as well, got Hep B and Vit K in the hospital.  After that I don't really know the schedule because she has  not gotten all of her vaccines and the ones she has received have been on my terms.  I will tell you that I had a hard time finding a pediatrician that was okay with this.  I called around places and asked if they were open to alternate schedules and such.  I ended up taking her to my family doctor.  There are 5 female doctors in my office and they all have one specialty plus they are family doctors/pcp's.  My doctors specialty happens to be pediatrics.  I would just call around and ask each offices policies.

You can refuse the Hep B shot in the hospital, all you would have to do is sign a refusal of vaccination waiver (this is what happens at the hospital that I work at, if the parents refuse vaccination or they want to do a delayed shots and have them given by the pedi)

My doc offered us delayed vaccinations but we declined.  You should interview the pediatricians if you want that.

Josiah only got the Vit K at birth. His doc happens to be a D.A.N. (defeat autism now) doctor so he is totally fine with an alt. vaccine schedule. He is 7 months and so far he has only had 2 shots. I will do one a month now to sort of catch up. He didn't get the Rotovirus though which believe has to be given by a certain age. My doc says he doesn't give that one anyway...

Check out 'The Vaccine Book'. It gives you great info on each shot, what it is for, risks, pros, cons. Its an all around good book and it has Dr. Sear's alt. vaccine schedule in the back.

BTW, a lot of doctors will not let you do a delayed vaccine schedule. You should call your pediatrician and ask if they will allow it.

Thanks!

I was SO worried about this ...
Heb B is offered in the hospital but I refused.

Get or check out from the library Dr Sears  The vaccination book.A life saver to me..has a schedule in it..why to delay what and what immunizations NOT to give together cause of additives that are potentially harmful.
He is a well known pediatrician.and does advocate immunizations..BUT does think their could be a correlation between immunizations and autism..so... get it and rest your mind:-) I have Aiden on his schedule.
PM me if you need any more info.
