I have heard from many ladies on this board who have been very successful breastfeeding! I plan to nurse as well!!

I've nursed 2 post op, one for 18 months and currently nursing my 17 months old. They have never had formula.

I have never heard of a high trigger. You can try different positions and even force more breast in the mouth if you have problems. If you are determined to breastfeed then try to stay away from formula for at least 6 weeks....or forever LOL Every bottle of formula you give your baby is less your breast will make.

Good luck! You CAN do it!

I have two post op babies.

My current nursling is 100% breastfed, she has not had a drop of formula.  She is healthy, growing well and extremely spoiled LOL

My preop baby received supplemental formula b/c I did not make enough milk,  as was my first post op baby also.

God Bless! Jen

Hijack-- Jen they are so cute. She has those nursey cheeks. Congratulations on exclusively breastfeeding! It is a great accomplishment.

Many women have success breastfeeding.  Your postop status shouldn't deter you in most cases.  May I add a little advice?  Make sure the nurses know that you do not want any bottle or fake nipple introduced to your baby in the hospital.  I wasn't given a choice, and I will forever kick myself for not telling them ahead of time!

I breastfed Elijah for nine months.  He and I were both fine nutritionally.  If you run into any problems, don't hesitate to call a lactation consultant--they are angels and can help you through anything.  Good luck!
